Default Hey Mallen! Grand Traverse Bay???

Mallen, I'm fishing next week with my club on the West Bay. Have you heard of anything going on out there? Water temp? Mayfly hatch? With our warmer weather I'm guessing the spawn is long over up there as well. I'm not sure how drop shotting in 100' of water is going to work.....

Oh, and if you're up for it, maybe a beer or three at Hooters??

Thanks!

Andy

Actually, I have no idea. The bay is a little much for my little cork I call a boat. I'll see if I can find somethin out for you though. I do believe the spawn is fully finished everywhere up here though. It certainly is everywhere I fish.
If I get the chance, I'll swing by Gander and see what info they have.
A beer or 3 at Hooters? What kind of Mallen do you think I am? OF COURSE!!!!!!!!

Took a trip out to the end of the peninsula in the bay when I lived in Michigan. It's a truly beautiful place. I am so jealous!

I lived in Wyoming. It's just outside of Grand Rapids. In fact we just always said Grand Rapids. So, I lived in Grand Rapids... lol

I loved it up there. It was such a beautiful place, and I was actually heavy into bass fishing up there. I found that a lot of people didn't know it, but the Grand River is full of large mouth bass. I used to catch them downtown by the fish ladder all the time. Come to think about it, I was city limits fishing before Ike... lol

I was just over in the area today. Had a golf outing at Egypt Valley (beautiful course!)

Anyway, I love northern MI. Don't think you will find a more beautiful area. Some guys just don't understand "gin clear" water.

Stayed at a hotel in Wyoming about a year and a half ago. We were doing a job in GR on Pearl St. Or maybe it was right off it, I can't remember.

I talked to Craig at Gander today. That guy is like a Thesaurus Rex on the area lakes.
He said they'll be on their beds (shows how much I know), or just starting the post spawn.
He recommended lipless cranks and jerkbaits over grass.
He also mentioned that the beds are hard to see, but to just look for the darker areas and to stay on the windward side.
Forgot to ask about water temps. No Mayflies around that I'm aware of.
Things could change alot in a couple days, especially in this state, as you already know. If you get the chance to hit Gander before getting on the water, I definitely recommend it. Craig is usually walkin around bendin someone's ear or hangin out by the reel counter.
That dude has helped me with everything from frogs to braid to line conditioner.

West Bay felt that Canadian quake a couple days ago. Wonder how it affected the fish

Well, it pretty much sucked (for me anyway). I tried to find some black spots but with a few miles (what, a couple hundred??) it was not easy to find the black spots. What I did find didn't hold fish. The other thing I found out is a 17 1/2 foot boat is a little small for the West Bay. 3' waves and wind don't work to well!! Just my luck.

I'll be back up this week for work. I'll find ya....
