Default I hate ice!

Decided to make a quick trips to some of the lakes I fish, to see what the ice situation looks like.
Not too bad, considering I can't legally fish for Bass for 25 more days.

Pics are:
1-Crystal Lake
2- Big Platte
3 & 4- Loon Lake
5- Little Platte
6, 7 & 8-Otter Lake (one of my favs)
9 & 10-Bass Lake

Loon will be thawed before the rest since the Platte River runs through it.
Might need to hit Loon for a lil "bluegill" fishin in a week or two

The lakes finally completely thawed here in the past week. I'm planning/hoping to get out this weekend. Boy, it's been a long winter! I have to replace my troller though. I can manage to "get by" with the one I have, which is a transom mount 55lb. MotorGuide for my jon. Three of the forward speeds are gone, and I lost the reverse last fall. Makes it kinda hard to get around properly. The oars work well though. haha

You can keep 5 bass per day from Saturday before memorial day until December 31st

Bass season in MN is completely closed from late February until the Saturday before Memorial Day every year. It is illegal to intentionally fish for bass during that time. Crazy, huh?!?

I've never heard of that here we can go after them year round. Why is there a season for you guys? Is it limited quantity?

WB hit on a very good point

Hoosier, I believe it's due to the spawn.
Funny thing is, when we have a normal Spring around here, the spawn is still going on once the season opens. Sometimes it hasn't even started yet.

If we're going to have a season, I feel it should be on an as necessary basis.
Last year is a great example. With the much warmer than normal temps we had, Spring fishing was absolutely horrible!

The Bass had already moved back out into deeper water

Keith, you gotta unload the Jon and get a kayak! More fun, easier, cheaper, lighter, not to mention you'll get a little low impact exercise. Car top it or go big time like Joedog and trailer. But for the kind of fishing you mostly do - KAYAK! Granted, not as much storage, but enough and it will improve your "planning" for your day's outing. Forget the new T/m go human power.
Yeah, I sent a resume into Hobie. :rolleyes

Wisconsin has a season too Corey.
Can't do bassin till the first Sat. in May. Ends the first Sun of March.
10 miles away from Illinois?

Whats even more surprising is how many Illinois bassers go into Wisconsin and fish illegally for game fish during our closed season and thier open. (which is always open)

And Mike, I'm not an Ice Lover either but WOW are those pictures beautiful!

Keith, I have to agree with Bruce.
I grew up Jon boating. We all had 'flatbottoms' as kids with 25 hps on the back.
More room in flat bottom but more fun in Kayak.
Plus the idea of a big fish pulling you as opposed to you pulling it adds to the FUN.

By the end of this season, I should be able to make a fair comparison between the two

Looks better than what we have! lol

Snow a crap is all about off the ground, couple clear areas on high current areas but that's it. Give he another week and we should start seeing some open water here.

Man oh man, oh man it's been a long winter.

Sure could use some rain here! Good warm stuff, but should get some this evening through the night... shouldn't breach 40 degrees either.

Sounds like progress to me!
