Like everything else they have their time . I admittedly haven't given them as much effort this year as i wanted to but with the time I did spend throwing one I did like the action and general feel of them . I found myself spending more time trying to fish them like a jig or a spinner and have yet to fall into a comfortable pattern of use with the bait .

i like them for certain things, but they will not replace a jig or spinnerbait. however they are another valuable tool. i personally like them around docks on sunny, slick calm days.

I'm pretty fond of the chatterbaits. However for me, I have my best luck with them by far in the prespawn season. After that my sucess with chatterbaits drops while my success with spinnerbaits goes up. I think the reason they work so well very early in the season is that they can be worked slowly at a time when bass are still sluggish after ice out, but the lure worked slow still has very enticing action.

Put the chatter bait up and pick up the buzzbait.

I've had three (and lost two). Never caught anything on any of them. Maybe I'm not fishing them at the right time, but they're definately not my confidence bait. I'd much rather throw a spinnerbait.

I have only caught a few fish on chatterbaits, they seem to work better on windy days when a spinnerbait bite is on. I have seen them produce before, but they are definitly a specialty bait. I'd rather fish a spinnerbait though...just my $0.02

Okay, let me start by saying there are no dumb questions (although I'm sure I've heard a few). That being said what is the best way and conditions for to fish spinnerbaits? I really don't have alot of experience with them having relied heavily on cranks, worms and topwater baits.

you are right kicking, no dumb questions here, lol. really there isn't in my opion. the best way I (just me now) have fished spinners is when it is a little windy and there is a ripple in the water. depth is dependant on where and when. sizes and blades are another factor. ol zooker and wtl are truly great with spinners. if you are ever lucky enough to get a stein (hand made by da zooker), treasure it. i got lucky as he&* and was awarded a couple of them. had some luck with them too. they will no doubt help you out with spinnerbaits. oh yea, da zook is also a master of cranks too.

Sounds like Zooker is, dare I say, a fishing God. I remember Greek mythology had a God for everything and Zooker sounds like, maybe, Zeus. Can I get some input from Zooker?

The fall bite is great on the chatterbait. Change the trailer and use it like a spinnerbait, jig or crankbait. Fish2win

kickin, spinners will work just about anytime, but here are a few pointers that may help. If it is a windy day always fish the wind blown side, if theres fallen trees, submerged trees / any type of structure your gonna wanna cast your spinner bait right in the middle of it and burn it through there 9 times outta 10 if theres a fish in there you got him. Always vary your speed and let the fish tell you what they want. Some day's your gonna wanna keep it just below the surface or 5 ft below just slow rolling it. It is really the most versitile bait out there if you ask me

i use these on the ugliest days when the wind is blowing like crazy and it is cloudy no sunshine. i throw it out let it sink to the bottom and reel it just fast enough to feel the vibration stopping it every once in a while and then starting it out fast then slowing it down again. i have caught a few this way when it is starting to get cold or right before it gets warm but i catch the most when it is mid winter.

Quote:
Zooker Zooker was the ruling Titan who came to power by castrating his Father Uranus. His wife was Rhea. Their offspring were the first of the Olympians. To insure his safety Zooker ate each of the children as they were born. This worked until Rhea, unhappy at the loss of her children, tricked Zooker into swallowing a rock, instead of Zeus. When he grew up Zeus would revolt against Zooker and the other Titans, defeat them, and banish them to Tartarus in the underworld. I found the chatterbait to be effective is sparse grass or wood stucture this year. Most of the fish I caught were on medium retrieve over emerging grass or laydowns. Once the grass got too thick the bait would hang up more and snag grass on every cast so I'd switch to a spinnerbait. I did pick up fish in pads up through November on the chatterbait. Most fish were caught on bright sunny days but I did catch a few on overcast days as well. Last edited by 3dkicker; 12-02-08 at 09:10 PM. |
