Default Quantum Energy PTi Spinning reels

I have been using two of these reels for about 6 months now. Must say I am impressed with them so far. Very smooth action and a positive bail. Seem to offer good value for money. Has anyone had any problems with these reels after prolonged use?

I have phased out all the other spinning reels I had and have only the Quantums. I have had no problems what so ever and no problems with their baitcasters. Keep them lubed with their hot sauce.

I am a Shimano guy. However, I am considering purchasing a Daiwa Sol for my smallmouth wading trips.

I've noticed that many spinning outfits sure seem heavier than the ones we all started out with, I personally dont like a big spinning reel, just picked up a quantum and it didn't seem too bad, just have to get used to a med size....try holding a salmon reel n rod for a weekend up on lake michigan and you'll never complain about a big bass reel again, trust me! rofl

No come down and hold a offshore bottom or trolling rod and you'll never complain. But it just wears me out in bass and inshore due to the repeated casts!

I've had probably 10 Quatum spinning reels, including the PTI. All of them have the magnetic bail, which is nice at first, but seems to go out over time. I like there stuff, and have no problem with buying more of them. I just won't spend a lot of money on spinning reels period. I've had Quantums most exspensive one, and it really isn't any better than the $50 ones. As long as the drag is good, and has a smooth retrieve, it works fine. I also use the 4000/40 series sizes, because I like a bigger spool, which I believe also helps getting longer casts.

Thanks guys. I had two Quantum Snapshots some years ago. After about two years the ones handle knob broke off and the others quick cast mechanism broke. Swore I would never buy a Quantum again! But these Energies are so neat and the write ups have been so good that I decided to take a chance. Hope I hav'nt made a mistake!

Just noticed you are from South Africa, do you know LOU, or Hippofly. These are 2 other members here, however I don't think Hippofly has been on in over a year, and LOU only stops by occasionally. I realize South Africa is huge, just thought you might have been reccommended to this site by one of them? And also a big WELCOME to the site to you.

Lizards - Hi, thanx for the welcome. I don't know the two you refer to (or maybe I do, but am not familiar with their online names). I do however know Anre De Villiers. Won the Federation champs but crashed out in the Classic. I suspect that he has aspirations of going pro. He builds one of the better bassboats in SA called a Rebel. I have one. These boats are styled on American bass boats. We have quite a few bass boat builders here and in Zimbabwe. Importing American boats is unfortunatly very expensive and only for the privelaged few. All we can do is dream of one day owning a Triton or Ranger.
