Trailer wiring question

Decided to make the jump to total LED trailer lighting. Need some advice conserning wiring up the clearance lights. The old ones have 2 wires, but the new LEDs only have one. I used a double end connector-plug one wire in each end and crimp it down-on the power wire and filled each end with silicone. My problem is the ground wire. This light gets just below the surface when launching/loading. I put an eye connection on the end of the ground, filled each end with silicone, and put it on the stud that bolts the light to the trailer. Since this light gets submerged, is there anything else I need to do? My fear is that having the eye connection exposed to the water it will short out. Should I cover the whole thing with silicone, or will it be OK the way it is?
