clunns are nice if you like to throw light baits a good distance or if you are like me a spool rider..

sportsmans guide tend to be a cheaper verison of what ever they sell if it has like a daiwa or pfluger name attach to it ok but not a looks like reel.

Take a look at the BPS Extreme reel. All I use, and would recommend them to anyone wanting a good reel. The fact they are on sale makes them an even better buy:

I would stay away from the guide gear reel, stay with a reel brand name that has a reputation to stand behind their products. I owned the Clunn reel and it casted well and cranked smooth.I did not like the new brake system, the spring that allows the plate to come closer to the magnets worked well, but I question the longevity of it after years of use.I hope this helps you, P N J

What gear ratio would you recomend on the BPS Extreme reel? I like to fish T-rig but also like to throw a topwater now and then.

hmmm what topwater do you throw,a 5;1 would work well if your using anything besides zara spook,it requires a lot of slack to work it so the highest one you can find

I use the 6.3:1 for everything except crankbaits and spinnerbaits. The reason is I tend to fish both too fast and the 5.1:1 is a little slower and the lower gear ratio especially for cranks is easier reeling. For a T-rig or topwater I use the 6.3:1. It allows me to get line in quick, and if a fish takes a bait and starts swimming towards me, which does happen I can catch up to it with the high speed reel.

To answer your question I'd go with the 6.3:1. You can always slow your reeling down if need be.
