What's your personal best?

What is everyones personal best Largemouth and/or Smallmouth?

I've never fished for smallies, but my personal best bucketmouth was 6lb 1oz caught last May fishing a frog through lily pads in 2 feet of water.

My PB LMB is 12 lbs, but my best tournament fish was 9 lb 14 oz, my PB SMB is 6 lb 4 oz caught out of Percy Priest reservoir in Nashville, TN.

LM, 7.4 lbs, SM 6.8 Lbs. They're starting aggravate me, for its been a few years gone past now and I can't break it. The LM was caught on a jig, SM on a Yum dinger,Maybe next spring is the ticket to a new PB ? P N J

My best Lm 8.2 and Sm 6.0 both came on a SuperSpook.

my personal best largemouth is 8.5 lbs. caught on a lipless crankbait a few days before last christmas. no giant smallies a few 3.5 - 4lbers.

In the DFW, Texas area that bass would hardly get noticed!
Texas Parks and Wildlife has a "Share-a-Lunker" program that runs from December through May. They will only take 13 pound (plus) females caught by anglers. The angler gets a fiberglass replica of the fish and gets the fish back after two years (they release or do whatever they want with the fish (a lot of folks then donate them to Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, or one of the marinas that has a large aquarium). This is how Texas maintains it's genetic superiority strain. The offspring gets distributed throughout the Texas reservoir system. Entries come from all over the state. That's a great program to maintain the consistency of the bass fishery! Up here (in my area anyway) a four pound bass is considered big. Bigger ones have been caught for sure, but four pounds is a good fish. I am pretty proud of my 6 pounder, considering I have been fishing for just over a year.

British Columbia, which is well known for it's trout and salmon fishing, has a strong voice of opposition by these anglers against the deliberate management and growth of bass fisheries in bc. As such, other than a daily limit, there is really no active management to improve the fishery. The perception of bass and bass fishermen is much different up here as well, as I have been called all sorts of things by "real fishermen" (who fish for trout and salmon).

My personal best was caught just 2 weekends ago.....a LM that weighed 5LBs 9oz. Caught him on a green tube that I Texas rigged because I could not figure out how to rig it with the hook that was in the package! LOL. It was only the 2nd time I had thrown it.

I caught another that I think was bigger a couple of months ago, but left my digital scale/tackle box in my truck because I had my son with me and was not wanting to haul it around with my son's stuff anymore. had already done that enough that day.

It seems I have good luck when I leave my scale and camera at home!

Shows that no matter how technical we get, sometimes the bass are just plain hungry or cranky, or both. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be good!

That's funny stuff right there! What nerve they have to look down their noses that way. On the flip side there are quite a few bass fishermen down here in the south that view "other fishermen" in the same context. It's unfortunate that we, as "anglers", have the same propensity to stereotype others as lower or second class fishing folk. I have fished for a number of species, and will continue to do so as long as the Good Lord allows me. I have a special fondness for Bass fishing, largely because that was the main sport species I grew up with. If I were raised in a different part of the country/continent, the species would more than likely be different (but I would probably still be an "angler").

Texas, and several other states, have recognized the LMB as tremendous revenue source. They have capitalized on that and the overall fishery has benefitted as well as the economy. Major tournaments, many many tournament organizations within the boundaries of the state, as well as the many clubs, all contribute to the local economies and the industry in the state. It's just simply "smart business".

I totally agree with your post Bob. Up here, I understand the importance of the trout and salmon fisheries to the economy. An hour from where I live, you can catch 25lb plus rainbow trout. Still, especially in communities like mine that rely heavily on tourism, it would seem to make sense to develop the bass fishery to appeal to our neighbors to the south, especially considering the effect a stronger cdn$ and weaker u.s.$ will have on our tourism industry. Also, I have never understood the argument that developing the bass fishery will destroy the trout/salmon fishing. We have so many bodies of water up here that they wouldn't even have to coexist. I think BC is really missing the boat by not capitalizing on the popularity of bass fishing, particularly in the U.S.
