Great news John. Seems like the work clothes area has been pretty well covered. Good luck and don't forget that pack rod for the down times.

Great news John, very glad you've found employement. Sucks being away from home, but in these times for a good paycheck some sacrifices have to be made. I'm sure you will handle that just fine. If you're ever working in my area give me a call, you have my number and I would never forgive you if you snuck in and out of Philadelphia and didn't give me a shout. Well, yeah, I would.

You mention being away for weeks at a time without spousal authority. Beware of the crowds you run with after the shift is over. Anyone can claim innocence, but if they are on the same plane, they all crash. I have worked all over the world and knew men to be deacons and respectful members of their community. If people knew what they were doing outside the zip code, they wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. Some will say now now brown cow as I was naive at one time. You don't actually know a man's character until he doesn't think anyone is watching.

I agree with the Timberline boots. Most confortable I've ever had as well. And they held up well too.

I swear, I thought I posted on this thread last night. But I was on my phone, so who knows what happened.....
Anyway, I'm thrilled you found something. It's not perfect, I know, but it'll do.
Of course, you know that we have a nice comfy couch you're welcome to any night you're close enough to take advantage of it. Since your range is "anywhere from New Orleans to Chicago," guess who's in a straight line between those two cities?
That's right....Caitlyn is, and Kinley soon will be.

thanks gang. thank ALL of oyu for the support and clothing advise. i will DEFINANTLY take ya'lls advise on that.

thanks BUBBA, i know YOU have had a LOT more time away from home than anyone else here, that is why i wanted to get YOUR advise.

i asked IUBASS ABOUT TIRES AND SO FORTH FOR MY TRUCK,well i FORGOT that they told me IF the job is more than a 10 hour drive...THEY FLY me to the job. so, i'll get frequent flyer miles. that will come in handy for lisa nd i to take vacations to places we always wanted to go i hope.

i have been up this morning since 5 am...thinkng aobut this. trying to get a game plan of sorts as to what to pack and so forth for when i go OUT. gonna put it on paper. i will most likely OVER PACK to start out with i'm sure. but i would rather pack too much than not enough. also i am going to get me a handgun to have in my truck when i travel. i know i can't take it on a plane or have it ont he job site or in a company truck. but i AM getting one. there will also be a LOADED gun for lisa for when i am gone. she doesn't it, but i ain't leaving her defenseless. we talked about that and she understands. i doubt if she'll really need it, but it will be there for her if she does.

now as me visiting all of oyu when i am in oyu neck of the woods. OYU BETTER HAVE ME A COKE AND SOME FROZENS REESES CUPS WAITING FOR ME!! HAHAHAHA!! i'll be working 6 days a week, 10-14 hours a day they said. so, SUNDAY is gonna be my "off" day. i'll use that day to wash my clothing and VISIT. i can't wait to see some of oyu folks for real. as for fishing, i'l have a rod or 2 for sure in my truck. i got a tackle box, daniel has seen it. i will have PLENTY of stuff packed in it. it's that big, hahaha!!

i am getting stoked for this gang. finally gonna make some REAL money. it's a sacrafice i am willing to make for lisa and i. save up enough moeny so we won't have to worry aobut it when i DO retire.

lisa and i are so BLESSED to have this forum of BROTHERS AND SISTERS praying and doing what you do for us.we LOVE oyu folks ot DEATH!!! yes, even OYU MALLEN, hahaha!! i still get tears swelled upin my eyes thinking of what oyu have done for us.

but i am gonna do something for you too. not saying what, oyu 'll jsut have to wait. hehehehe. yeah, start worrying. lol!!

wheni do start this job, i probably won't be on her as much. but i will NEVER LEAVE! it's jsut that working all those hours and going to all the places i won't have time like i do now. so frogive me ahead of time ok? and trust me, i'll be here when i can.

also, i won't be able to text when i am out on the job. cell phones aren't allowed when working and i understand why. trains don't stop on a dime and having a cell phone out there is dangerous. so i'll text ya'll when i am off the clock ok?

now, if ya'll think of NYTHING ELSE that i could use...do NOT hesitate to tell me.

GOD BLESS OYU GANG!!!

Cheap Laptop!

Almost everywhere has free WiFi.
Else every Mac & Dons has free WiFi.
Plus,
probably just ME but their Coke seems just a little different. Better IMO.

Congrats, John! Although it might not be ideal due to the travel, it's great news that it looks like you have something lined up. Looking forward to updates as you find out more and have time to share.

Looks like you have tons of great advice already, but this is the one thing I'd reiterate from what I've seen above:

I'm going to be living on the road this summer, so I am going to see how I can help you John with tips about that...I plan on taking most of my fishing gear and also some studying materials. Maybe we can meet up somewhere thats not Alabama and go fishing.

Long johns, carhartts with the extra pad liner attachments for back etc, good pair of work boots, and decent rain suit like frog toggs.
If its actually with the railroad they do lay off a bit(union so get called back by order of hire) so get it in while you can.
Keep some money out but send most of it home, that way wont be tempted to much.
Its long hard physical work and one can get hurt easily keep your wits about you.
I think its all covered by previous posts but just wanted to toss in my 2 cents worth.
