Bass Boat Motor Shaft Length?
Is there such a thing as a "standard" outboard motor shaft length for a typical 17-21 foot fiberglass bass boat? My guess is that they are 20 inch but that's just a guess. Am I correct??? Thanks!

I believe 20" is standard. 25" can be found on the boats with taller transoms, not typical bass boats.

Yes 20 for most bass boats, my jaguar had a 22 in transom so it had to have a 25 in,and other boats mostly racing have shorter transoms so 15 in or less can be used on them.
So when one buys a motor they need to check and see what length shaft they are getting, many found in say fla would be 25 in,like as in ocean pro, venom is 20 in with the exception of one year, one year they made a 15 in lower for them.I know I own one. Last edited by lilmule; 06-14-10 at 07:46 PM. |

Sportdog, you will see most 20 in. outboards with an "L" in their model number. "XL" usually denotes a 25 in. shaft.
