OMC Engines V4 Crossflow 1989 90hp, 110hp, 115hp performance difference
I am hoping someone familiar with this style of engine can come in and share their opinion. I was told the 110 johnson/evinrude of this year ran alot better in higher rpm band versus the 90 and 115, but the 90 and 115 had better low end torque than the 110. Has anyone heard or experienced this with this particular engine model/yr?
Im curious since i have the 110, and i do notice that in the higher rpms, this engine does seem to run excellent, but im no engine expert and i dont know squat about OMCs. This is my first boat. Last edited by 1600TF; 08-31-09 at 10:03 PM. Reason: typo |

in the older omc the 40,50,55,65,70 all run the same 2 holer block. the 88,90,110 are a three holer block.the 115,120,130 are the 4 holer block..there was some jumping back and forth with 115 between 3 and 4 holes but it is year defination..
i have had the 88-stinger-and the 130 gt..the 110 is pretty much the wide open moter for that size..the wot rpm should be mid to upper 5000.if your spinning less -and you is- move the moter up and check the prop size..btw on that moter/boat set up jumping up to the bottom hole wont hurt you any.. zooker

The main difference between all the engines....be it the 88,90,112,118,115 etc on to the 140 is on the smaller engines....from the 88-110 they are same cubic inches...different carbs and porting to make up the hp difference.....step up to the 115 to the 140...same cubes different carbs and porting. By the way did ya move the motor yet bud?????

By the way I shoulda tole ya that you can make up hp differences in swapping parts around between ALL the V4 engines from the 88 all the way to the 140. Swapping heads,carbs,exhaust, etc etc.

also some swaps are easier than others for example in 1985 a 120 and 140 are similar and the 90 and 115 are similar.
I have a massive inventory of Johnson parts and parts diagrams |

wow, that's really nice to hear, parts are swappable.
I'm kinda glad i have one of these older OMCs engine now. I haven't done the move on the engine yet. I need to order a lifting eye from Bob's Machine shop, its about half the price of the oem omc kit. I'm wondering if i should just get a manual jack plate and install one while i've got the motor off the transom. Do you guys think this i will be overkill for my setup? |

I have one for about 150 shipped I used one my self if for nothing else it made it easier to fine tune my motor hight because I did not need to continue to crawl in the hull

A jackplate would be an assett for your rig. Not only will the engine lift the hull much better you will be able to tailor the engine height for your particular setup and maximize performance.
