Default 97 Mercury prop question

I bought this boat a few weeks back and finally got a chance to take it out today. Its a '97 procraft 185 pro w/150 efi mercury. Seems to take forever to get on plane. It has a 23p prop on it which seems a little big for this setup. A 23p is whats on my 23' Baja w/454...which is a LOT more boat with the same size prop. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but wouldn't a smaller prop help out or is this the way its gonna be? Not too concerned with top speed, would just like to get up on the water a little quicker. This is my first outboard, so all is new to me.
