Custom Rod Building - My Thoughts

This hobby is the most humbling endeavor I have ever toyed with. I should have remembered why I quit building model cars when I was a kid. LOL

If I had hair, I would pull it out. A perfectionist nightmare at times. All for peace of mind and the big black bass.

It's definetely not for anyone trying to save money building their own rods. It is addicting though. When I get frustrated I remember what a high-school shop teacher told us: " The sign of a true craftsman is how well he hides his mistakes".

You got that right Mike. And CiK, I want to put my hand through the table sometimes, ,especially when I pull a trim band out hahahaha. But it is an awesome feeling just like any other person that builds something they personally use.

You guys make it sound soooo easy at times. I am sorry to say this to you, but I am glad to hear others experience the trials and tribulations of this hobby. LOL

All things are good until I get to the finish, then I become all thumbs. With all things, it will get better with more practice.

What I found when I started out was that by the time I got to the finishing step, I was so anxious to see the finished product that I found myself rushing without even realizing it at first. Once I got past that, it was just a matter of establishing a routine or system or what heve you and sticking to it.
