Abu Garcia Cardinal 300
Hey Guys, Just became a member but have been reading the threads for a long time now. You guys have all helped me learn a ton of new stuff, so thanks!... Now I have a question, Does anyone have a Cardinal 300 series reel? I am looking to purchase 2 new spinning reels for this year and trying not to spend a fortune on them. Noticed that I can pick these up fairly cheap and was just wondering if anyone has used one or has a friend with one. Any input would help.

Fishman, my very first reel was a Cardinal 301. I got it back in 2004 or 05, and I'm still using it today. The only problem I had with it was this fall, it started to make some noise. I took it all apart this winter, relubed it, and it seems to be fine (although I haven't tried it on the water).
They are good reels for the money, and mine has held up well. I think you'll be happy with them if you get them. BB

Abu has come out with an updated Cardinal line or U series. I can't tell you what is different between last years and this years reels. For $40 -50 the 300 series is a good reel. I like the 500 series and just picked up a 502 this weekend. I've been using one for the past couple years and it's held up really well compared to other spinning reels that I've used in the past.

I've played with a 300,never fished it,but it felt really good for the money....I have a 702LX (which is discontinued) That I absolutely love!!...I have no idea why they quit making em.I think the 700 is still around...It a heavy little reel though, but I like it!

Not sure on the cost of the 300 Cardinal, but as I've read it's pretty good.
Also check out the Pflueger President reels for $60, they are one of the smoothest, longest casting spinning reels you can buy, especially for the price.

Waffle - The 700's are officially done. I thought the 500's were done too since I couldn't find any at the local stores or any at the shows until I found one this past weekend. The dealer looked up both up in the latest catalog and found that the 700 was discontinued. If you see any buy them or check out the 600's or the new Soron sx.
