I'm not 100% sure (I live in Indiana), but it looks like, simplified, you have to have a boater's education ID if your boat motor is over 10hp and you're under 21.

Looking over Florida's laws, frankly I'm stunned. Your regulations are WAY less strict than Indiana. Here in IN, a 15-year old has to wear a PFD at all times when in a boat. In FL, it's 6 years old. Correct me if I'm wrong, but man...a 7-year old kid has no business in a boat without a life jacket.

Also, in Florida, it looks like any boat with a motor has to be registered. Only other thing I see is that you have to have a PFD for each person in the boat.

In Mississippi, anybody 12 or younger has to wear a PDF when the boat is underway. Nofear, I agree that children should have life jackets on. 7 just seems waaaay too young to be without one.

In Texas, all people under 12 must have a PFD/lifevest on while in a boat period, not just underway. Here in Georgia the law is similar to Mississippi, "while the vessel is underway".

Must have boaters education course. Go boatus.org, find florida, take 100+ question test, print and save.
