Striped Bass Rig???
I gotta a new rig. Trust me i'm not pulling a Buzzwing either. While i will tell you about my rig. Itz not a rant about what i got. It more about a little back ground hoping that it will answer my questions. Well i baught a rod & reel for stripers. I got it on ebay. It is a silstar gt80 limit reel. It holds 320 ft of 20lb mono. The rod is a silstar saltwater med/heavy action 8ft eglass rod. Here is where i am confused. It does'nt give a weight of the bait i can throw. I'm looking at some 3 oz jigs. I just don't know how heavy is to heavy for this rod.

Moose,
As long as your not throwing something like a spinnerbait or swimbait that drags through the water, I'd say you'd be fine. If you're just fishing on the bottom, you won't have an resistance, so you won't "overpower" the rod. I was throwing a 2-pound jig on a G-loomis Musky "Jerkbait" Rod in Alaska and I was doing fine. The rod was only weighted for 1-4 ounces, but I couldn't notice any weakness or anything that would hamper the rods performance. |

While i'm harvesting big stripes this fall. I thaught i would treat myself to one of these. This is another reason why weight was a factor. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descp...WIM-ACCA8.html I have'nt baught the AC yet. Maybe next payday. One thing at a time. But i'm gearing up for the stripe bass to return to the shallows this early fall @ Blue Springs lake. "Hey my under weight striped bass will eat your trophy largemouth any day" Boy is there some truth in that.

I have been catching stripes for quite some time. But i would be at a disadvantage because i was using a largemouth rig. This year i want to be ready with heavior gear.

Landlocked convict bass are no match for tidal convict bass.
I use a 7 foot St Croix med action spinning rod and any reel that will hold 200 yards of 40lb braid. Baits are simple ... I will provide a link.. May the force be with you http://www.tidalfish.com/forums/ches...ers-blues.html Capt Mike

Thanx zook & Mike. Mike stripes run the missouri river. No land lock there. You think i should concentrate my efforts there. Caught a few here an there. Just need to determine the pattern so i'm more consistant.
