Default Smallmouth

So water temps at prettyboy reservoir are in the mid to low 50s im guessing. I wanna a hike over to my spring honey hole. My question is do you guys think the smallmouth will be there. Its about 5ft of water with 10 to 15 to 20....then drops real fast 60-80(its by the dam) ill be fish 5-12ft of water. All rocky bottom, it is a long extended point that im fishing. Never fished there in the fall be to my knowledge the smallmouth should be stacked up there. I plan on fishing plastics, spoons, spinners, and cranks.

Thanks, Mojo

Not sure about your area. but up here the smallies werent even close to the spring spawning areas they were out chasing the big balls of bait fish in the deeper water when the water temps were in the 50's.you said that you have deep water close so maybe the bait will be there to.Good luck!

Yea its worth the time to find out. Never bet against a honey hole. I have a mudflat that lines a creek in north alabama - its a huge honey hole. Anyways in winter they drop the water down 3 feet so most of the mud is even exposed - and still - there are always active bass in there.

here on table rock they are catching quite a few smallmouths up shallow around the banks. this may have something to do with our water levels just now returning to normal after all the flooding but i say you should at least check it out.

Smallmouth are ba$*#$d gypsies and you can never count on them to be in the same spot ever. I hate them.
j/k, they do seem to move around a lot so we try to hit many spots looking for them. It's really hard this time of year because you have to fish slowly, but still cover a lot of water. It's definitely worth a shot.

The bait monkey has me by the balls though it is going to be one expensive winter that I can promise still got one more set up to buy. A new tackle box, Then Im gonna slowly stock up on cranks, jerks, spinners, and plastics. O yea not to metion renew the tags on my trailer, fix the any wiring issues that I think maybe causing problems and fixing the bilge. But Id also love to have a 60 degree instead of a 20 degree fishfinder, but still wanna keep the gps. I got the hummingbird 595c. hmmm
