Both my front door and the carport door have gaps between them and what I've discovered is called the "rebate," the lip around the door jamb that the door hits when you shut it. The carport door is not as bad, but you can see light through it even when it's shut. The front door, however, has a couple inches between the door and rebate. I've tried new weatherstripping, but it's too big of a gap. My father in law came and put a strip of wood on the door jamb on the latch side to help seal it off there, but I think it would be better to seal it at the rebate with weatherstripping.
My question is, how do I adjust the door to close that gap between the door and the rebate so that I can actually use some weatherstripping? the gap at the top of the rebate is the largest, there's just a small gap at the bottom. I'm a little afraid the door is warped, but hopefully I can still adjust it to make a better seal. I'd hate to know how much cold air is escaping out of my house through that gap.
If this doesn't make enough sense, let me know. Thanks for the help.

Daniel, I think I can help you. It's complicated and I need more info. Can you send me some pics. Then I can send you some back so you know what it should look like. I can take pics at my shop and send them to you. I've worked with doors for a very long time. Thanks Jeff

I knew somebody would know a lot more about it than I do.
Of course, our camera is out for repairs at the moment. I'll see what I can do with my wife's Blackberry tonight.
