PM ur Boat and Trailer now

Take the time to PM ur boat and trailer in the cold season and lok forward to a relatively problem free fishing year.
1. New ater pump impellar and Lower Unit check seals and replace lube.
2. Spark plugs and wire check for corrosion and loose connections
3. Fuel line connections and fittings tighten and replace if needed
4. Battery clean and check water and specific gravity
5. All nuts bolts screws etc throughout the boat
6. Prop and seal
7. Put in Seafoam for the years first time
8. Tires and Bearing check on trailer replace and re grease
9. Check the bunks and carpet repair as needed
10. CHECK REGISTRATION and saftey devices

Do these and you will have a relativley trouble free year

Also for safety and DNR checks...lifejackets, a killswitch that works, a horn or whistle, lights that work.
CHecking your bearing for grease is a biggie in my book.

thanks for reminding me about the kill switch our tether cord snaped so i have to replace it befor sping

Thats one of the pluses for doing the PM while its still cold at the begining of the year. While going over the boat there are things that you will find that need attention and you have time to do it cause the bass aint calling as hard.

Laser-do you change the impeller yourself or take it into the shop?

I do all my outboard work myself. The impellar change is really very simple even for those that have a minumum of mechanical experience. Its really straight forward and very cost effective to do this annually. An outboard has 2 things that it HAS to have to stay alive. Oil and Water and they dont have roadside assistance,LOL. Loose water pressure because of a impellar that is 2 old to pump and there goes a powerhead. $50 at the VERY most to chamge a impellar, most of the time less ......blow a powerhead depending on what motor could go as high as $6500. You tell me what is smart to do.

I change the impeller on my 1969 9.5 hp Johnson outboard but I'm afraid to change it on my 2001 yamaha 150. I guess if I mess up on the little engine it's not that big of a deal.

Simple procedure there Lonestar. Same procedure just a bigger piece to work with. Just make sure when you pull the lower its in neutral and you put it back in neutral and all will be fine.
