Default Color of Lures

How important is the color of the Lures you use to your fishing? How do you decide what color you use?

ok... i only have one rod and reel setup with a spinning reel, and i use different types of lures and i have 12lb test Cajun line fluorocarbon line spooled. but the more i watch the videos from kevin, the more i realize how many different circumstances i need to take into consideration and i may not be prepared to swap my gear accordingly

I think color is one of the things bass fishermen, or fishermen in general, overthink. And the lure manufaturers take advantage of that, which in turn makes us anglers overthink more.

When it comes to hard baits, I have a bunch of different colors, but only use a few. I use more crankbait colors than anything. I like to use white, firetiger, bluegill, or shad colors (Sexy shad and tennessee shad are my two favorites)

For topwater hardbaits, I use black, white, and a chrome color.

for spinnerbaits: white, chartreuse, white/chartreuse, bluegill, sexy shad, and I try to have one with a translucent skirt.

buzzbaits: white, chartreuse, black, and Booyah's Citreuse color.

When it comes to plastics, I think it gets a bit more complicated, yet a lot simpler at the same time. Agaiun, while I have many different colors, I'm normally fishing a green pumpkin or watermelon of some sort. Watermelon Candy is one of my favorites. pumpkin is also a good color, as is black, red shad, and junebug.

for jigs: black, black and blue, green pumpkin, and maybe a brown color.

I have a blk/blue Jig, with Pumkin Trailer, unfortunately, i only have a spinning rod/reel. I have tried my Jigs several times but only to cast again in vain. my first question is, Does the pumpkin trailer couneract the effectiveness of the lure as it is dofferently colored? and secondly, what are some opinions to what i am doing wrong for jig fishing? Also, Can I properly fish a jig with a spinning reel?

Some will tell you to match the conditions, overcast and dark, go with darker baits to make it look more natural. bright and sunny, go with brighter colors.
some do the opposite and throw shiny in darker conditions to make it easier to spot.
I go dark to dark, shiny to bright.

that's what i thought, so the only 2 jigs I have are the BPS Enticer's a Watermelon, and Blk/Blue. They would only be good for covered areas or in deeper whater where it is darker as well as muddy/murky waters right?

I think it depends on the style of fishing when I go top water with frogs i fish In the scum
honestly I think yo could uses a dirty sock with a hook they see the shadow and broken scum lines most of all then other times color dictates the direction of the biggest fish story tell the story
