Take a look here:

are you supposed to pitch/flip with a weight or weightless or does it matter?

usually weighted objects , but you can flip any plastic without a weight also..
Try a jig, or worm with a texas weight, 3/16th, 1/4 ounce, or 5/16 to 1/2 ounce or higher...if you're beginning a heavy weight is much easier to use and practise..however once you go fishing you need to think about using the correct weight for each situation and try to get by with the lightest weight possible |

I guess you could, but pitching and flippin' weightless would be a chore since the weight is what gets you to the target and to the bottom. Typically when you flip, you want the lure to get to the bottom where the fish are. On occasion the fish will take the lure on the way down, same with pitching. Remember flipping is close range, pitching is longer distance.

This is something you can practice during the offseason. When the ice starts melting, you can find me out in the back yard pitching and backhand low-casting, trying to knock over soda cans with a 1/2oz jig.
