Default Don't you just hate it......

When you are going fishing and are limited on what you can take?

I am taking my family camping this weekend and the campground we are going to has 2 lakes that are just chock full of bass and bream along with a trout stream that runs through the middle of it. I was outside yesterday evening trying to get my fishing stuff together to carry with me because I plan on getting in on some of the bass action while I'm there. Well, I have so much tackle and so many fishing rods that I like so much that I was totally torn on what I should take. Sure, I could take a complete arsenal, but then there would not be any room for the camping supplies. I finally gave in and prepared everybody in the family one rod and reel each, and 3 for myself . My biggest objective is to let the family have fun and hopefully get my kids in on some great bream action. They haven't really had a chance to go yet this year because of school and T-ball, so I want to make this memorable for them.

What does a person do in this type of situation??

I'll post pics when I get back.

Limit your tackle to what the family can catch fish with and what you think would be the most productive lures for that lake, this time of year. 4 flat plano boxes should hold a few of everything (hard and soft baits) and plastic bags can hold soft plastics you may need more of that are flimsy (ie Senkos).
2 baitcasters, 2 spinning, a few spools of extra line (braid and flouro), a box contain only hardware (hooks, jig and sinkers) should leave enough room for the gear and supplies.

I know that you always want to be prepared for whatever the situation calls for, but you should be able to get by with 3 rods n reels. Just take your top 5 go to baits....nothing else. Your space is limited, so just take what you know you will fish with. I know there are always those baits in the box that you keep, but never use.....but I think you know in your heart what the situation calls for. Good Luck and have a great time with the family......and post pics of the hogs you drag in!

i don't know about you guys, but I decided to consolidate my go to baits in one tackle box and I found that it is so nice. Mostly because 95% of the time I was using the same 6 or 7 different baits. Now I can just grab the box and a couple poles and go instead of having to make 5 trips carrying numerous wormbinders and tackle boxes. Try it you might like it.

That is a good idea WIU. I never actually thought about that. I keep everything in my boat since I never go out without it, but this gives me another reason to spend money on some more tackle

Default Boat Ho'ing

As a confirmed boat Ho and also having many Ho's on board as well the rule is two rods and one small plano box on the Cheasapeake Bay.

For LGMouth the rule remains the same except two plano boxes.

I can pick and pack in ten minutes.. because I have multi purpose boxes always ready.

Remember presentation and casting skill are more important than lure choice/ color / make model of rod and boat you run..

I will take a line from Sienfield
