Great day and new personal best!
Folks, today I had one of those days that come along every so often. My buddy and I were planning on fishing a lake south of San Antonio until he called me with a weather update-winds forecast 20-25 which means 30+ on the water and a 24,000 acre lake, so on to plan B. We decided to fish a lake north that really is a tough lake to fish.
We got on the water at about 6, and on the second cast I picked up a one pounder on one of my spinnerbaits. My buddy picked up his spinnerbait rod and by the time we finished fishing the stretch of timber we had boated 5-I had 4 to his 1. We moved to a few other areas throughout the day, and decided to head back where we started-I hadn't caught another fish and he had picked up 5. We went back to the timber we started in, and I caught 3 on a shad colored Strike King Series 1 crankbait and one on a wacky rigged baby bass/pearl swirl Tiki Stick. He caught 6 on a Zoom pumpkinseed U-Tail, including a 4-11 football. I made a cast into the wind with the wacky rig and naturally got a backlash. I picked it out, and when I tightened up I thought I was hung up. I started pulling, and didn't notice anything until the line moved off to the left. I realized I wasn't hung up, and it felt like a good fish. The water was pretty clear-about 3 feet of visibility-and when I saw the fish it wasn't green-it was brown-so I knew I had a smallie. Got him in the boat, the last fish of the day, and had a new personal best 2-1 smallmouth. Took a couple of pictures and let it swim away. May not seem big to some of you northern guys, but to catch a smallmouth in South Texas is pretty unusual. I figured we would be doing good to catch a couple, but much to my surprise we had a real good day-the kind that keep you coming back on those days you get skunked . Nitro, we were on Canyon in the timber east of the Tom Creek ramp west and around the point from Comal Park on the south side of the lake.

WTG, but when you said personal best I was expecting a pic of a 9 pound largemouth. That smallie is no slouche though.

Forgot to say the grand total was 21 in the boat and we both missed 5-6 more.

Rebbasser, When the chips are down because the snow has fallen to the ground, as you sit in winter wonderland wearing a frown. Who cheers you up ? Rebbasser does, thats who. Thanks for sharing your experience with those of us that are surrounded by snow banks and hard water. I went out and brushed the snow off my trusty old boat and casted a practice plug out in the yard .Thats as close to fishing as I will come to until another month or so. P N J

It is really good to hear about your outing, what was the name of the lake? I'm still chomping at the bit, waiting for my first outing of the season. I have been out,but only to "test fire" some of the gear picked up this winter.

Wonderful day indeed. I will have to take a trip up north for the smallies I would really like to go out and catch several in a day. Even living farther north I still couldn't get the brownies . By the way, I beat my personal best today on the Greenies WTL, don't go shooting me after I put the pics up LOL

Great job Reb, it is great when a plan comes together. (A-Team) Twenty fish days are great. One of these days you'll have a 20 fish day and they'll be mostly 5 and 6 pounders. Great job. Keep after those smallies they get more wary as they get bigger. I hope you double your pb on the next one.
