Skirt coming loose on jig?
I have a jig that the skirt keeps coming loose on the cast, almost coming off! How can I keep it in place with out getting a new skirt for it? Have yet to catch a fish on it, I would like it to last at least one fish.
Thanks,

superglue.... and i hate it when i get a new jig or spinnerbait and the skirt comes off and then i wonder at what point the skirt came off was it when it entered the water or during the retrieve or as it exited the water? i guess thats what happens when you buy cheap. but it really irritates me when it is supposed to be quality.

Straighten the skirt out and glue it or wrap some thread around a few times, tie it, and then glue it. Or give the bait monkey a call and go out and get a few replacement skirts.

I've heard of many people using the smallest cable ties like ho_shi said. They may not be real pretty, but from what I hear they work. If you want it on there for good go get some 22 or 24 gauge craft wire, pull the rubber band down a little, then wrap it 2 times where you want with the wire. Leave the ends long, cross them, then grab them at an angle with needle nose pliers and twist until the wire is tight. Snip off the extra wire and the rubber band collar with cutters and you are good to go. It's 100x easier without the weedguard, but you can do it with it on too.

Or strip the paper off a twist tie and use the wire to hold it on-no fuss, no mess.

Ditto. That's what I do. They are also known as cable ties. Cut the end off with a pair of dykes.
Better yet, buy hand tied jigs and you won't have that problem if they're well tied. I hate those elastic bands they use on buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs. If you keep them long enough they all rot or get loose. Hand tied is the way to go. |

I've never had this problem, but I was thinking how about simply taking a small piece of surgical tubing or the small oring that comes with a spinnerbait to use to keep the trailer hook from slipping down the main hook. You could simply slide the oring over the hook and snug it up against the skirt to keep it snug. I would think you could get a very small oring from any hardware store.

that would work but unless you got the fancy tool that puts all your strands and o ring and all that it can be a real hastle with wire or zip strip wrap strands around how you like and "zip" em up |

Why not just replace the skirt OR "rebuild" the skirt using a hard neoprene ring. This is available at any hobby shop that sells model aircraft supplies. It's usually used as fuel line and will last dern near forever. Just buy a foot of the stuff and snip off as needed. Be sure and take a jig or two with you to assure that you purchase the correct diameter tubing. You want a tight fit. L6 |

Well, jigs are not that expensive, so i just replace the whole jig, and buy replacement skirts for the ones that need them.

I can't seem to keep a hold of my jigs long enough for the skirts to become an issue.
