Battery In Cold
hello friends..i leave my batterys in cold all winter..it has been below zero here in pa. all week..i took caps off battery and water is not froze..
every month i put charger on but none of batterys are low, always on full charge but i charge a little anyhow.. i find i have no problems leaving batterys in boat all winter..boat is in garge with no heat.temps get below zero in that garage because i have no insulation in walls etc. next, a trick i was told, instead of fogging your motor in winter, leave batterys in boat and put the kill switch on.. this will not start your motor and it allows oil/fuel to shoot into piston and coat the cylinder. anyone want to comment if they agree or not and why,thanks.. |

I don't take any of the batteries out of my boat and it has been sub-zero here for a few weeks now. I plug in my onboard charger about once a week and have never had any problems.

I would personal;ly not recommend doing this myself. When 2 stroke oil is mix with fuel it actually causes the fuel to go sour quicker. If you dont have a good mix of stabil or my favorite Seafoam you stand that much more of a chance of fouled plugs etc etc

Ok, here is what I do but this is not gospel but has worked for me.
I leave my batteries in the boat and plug in the onboard charger about once every couple of weeks. I am a firm believer in Sea Foam and use it religiously. Along with the Sea Foam I put Stabil in my fuel system before the boat is stored and make sure it runs at least 10 minutes or so to make sure the carbs are filled with the treated gas before storage. About once a month I will hit the starter key (with kill switch on) and let the motor turn over for a couple of seconds. DON'T OVER CRANK IT, a few seconds is all you need. I feel this lubricates the cylinder walls. I used to fog my motors but don't do that anymore. |
