Default What do you all do in the "off season"???

What are you all doing in the winter when the fishing's slow to while away the time until Spring??? Me? I bird hunt all Winter. I've got 3 birddogs and we pound the fields until the Spring bite starts. I used to Striper fish all Winter but the birddogs have taken the place of Stripers-----for now, at least. I also used to crappie and trout fish in the Winter. Sooooo, what are you all doing while waiting for the Spring Bass bite to start??????

well, i was doing a lot of deer hunting but season is over now so im gonna have to just go fishing every once and a while. cant keep my mind off of it. probably going to go this weekend to practice at Percy Priest lake for a tournament in february. its supposed to get up to 60 degrees so it wont be a bad time to go. been waiting on a warmer day during the weekend for some time now.

Work five days a week 9-5 and some evenings on side jobs. Then weekends I travel and set up my booth and sell fishing trips and crappie poles.

Well, lately I have been changing out hooks, buying rods, (HeHe), looking/researching certain lines, looking/buying lures, and foolin' around with the Bait Monkey!

I work 5 a week and chase my daughter around when I get home. Expecting my 2nd child ths ones a boy Feb 7th or anyday now. I also have some black angus that take up some of my time but Momma knows when March rolls around I'm gonna go chase fish for money. Let me add don't try to make a living out of it or you will starve. I also deer hunt when I get a spare few minutes.

Definition of "Off season": term applied to the period of time by them guyz up north where water turns into a lure impenetrable solid mass several feet thick on itīs own.

Needless to say that such event only happens for us southern guys in the freezer by artificial means.

Definition of "Ice fishing".

For the guyz up North: drilling a hole to penetrate the lure impenetrable mass several feet thick hoping to ketch some feesh while freezing their rear end.

For us the guyz down south: trying to scoop out the last ice cubes out of the cooler after baking under the sun in 65°-70° ( "winter" temps ) all day long to chill down .

LMC, true. That 5lb bass would make perfect bait for some 50"+ Musky.

Well I hunt and go sauger fishin some during the winter. I hunt mostly though it's the best thing besides fishing I've found to relax me as much.

during the off season up here in northern ohio, all i do is ice fish (if the ice would ever get thick enough), read about bass fishing, fix all my rods, reels, lures, etc, mess around just pitchen and flippin lures into what ever, and finally i just dream about when the ice melts (again) so i can get my lures back to were there supposed to be, in a basses mouth. lol

Just keep fishing, like Retired said. Benefits of living in the South, and especially in Texas!

I would like to try ice fishing sometime just to see what it is like. Maybe swap a trip with one of you Northern boys.

Reb, any time you want to ice fish, you know you are always welcome. Here you can fish the bigger lakes by boat as well.We boated 14 lake trout and 2 smallmouth this morning fishing from a boat. Its nearly the same vertical presentation as ice fishing without the ice present, because it can't form on the big lakes due to water current. P N J

In the event I can't fish in the off season,I stock up on fishing supplies and what have you for the boat to get ready for next season. P N J

Off season? What off season? I braved sub freezing temps last week just to fish. Off season? hmmph! Couldn't even feel my hands despite wearing gloves and mitts while fishing last week. Off season? Baaa! Five hours of fishing and only one #@&##&* bite. Fish tough or go home.

Okay, just kidding. There were a few times out there that day like when my hands nearly fell off that I think I should have stayed home.

Off season jitters kept at bay on forums such as this, lure making, reading books, and planning how I will approach the next season. Jigs and pigs, baby. My drop shot is going bye bye.
