Default Horney Toad gone Dead?

Compared to several years ago, the horney toad has produced a LOT less fish for me so far this year, anyone having much luck on it? The popR this year has been great tho!

Well, guess the fish just are more interested in something else? or something they have not seen in a while? Fish in my lake are deep right now... haven't thrown a topwater since last fall.

Plastic worms have been catching fish for decades, lipless cranks the same, same can be said for every bait, they all work and they all catch fish, some have their ups and become hot in many ocassions because the design is new and fish haven´t seen it but actaully any bait is hot when you fish it in the right ocassion, why toads were hot last year ? one reason could be that they were relatively new ( which they are really not that new, the design is quite old ) or the conditions in which you fished it allowed it to be hot.

Been catching feesh consistently with straight tail worms for more than two decades and they are as hot now as they were back then, what has made the difference ? the rigging method and how that rigging method applies to the conditions of the day and how I´ve fished them.

When and how ( depending upon the conditions ) are what makes a bait more productive, you have to fish today like today not like you fished it yesterday, last week, last month or last year, fish the current conditions and not the history.

yeah i would say the toad bite, while i can still catch fish on it has narrowed consiterable..

now i spend alot of time with the buzzbait tied on once the sun starts pushing fish back into the cover out comes the frog...and for about an hour the frog rules..

not gotten too many on the frog this year... yet, but my best topwater has been a Strike King Spit-N-King. I have gotten a few on spooks and other topwates but the popper is still is number one this year...

I've been taking some nice fish on toads lately, including 5 last night. However, most are falling for the Yum frog. I havn't taken a single fish on a Horny Toad this year. But then, I always have had more success with the Yum Buzz frog. You might want to try the Strike King Rage Frog. Similar action to the Horny Toad but stirs up more surface camotion.

Never really have used the horny toad, but I do use buzz frogs which are primarily the same thing, but I seem to have WAY more success on them. I have used the buzz frogs probably way more than I should lately and I have been catching fish nonstop. And if I am not producing any hits on top of the water, I will let me frog sink and work it really slow, which seems to have worked the best lately.
