Default Silver buddy

Well I was on lake Moomaw yesterday trying to end my cold water slump. To make a long story short the boat next to me was catching bass and I wasn't. The guy was using a bait called a Silver buddy. I have never heard of it. Anyone else use this bait for largemouth or smallies?

They quit making them for quite a few years but now they're back. They are a great winter/cold water bait yoy yo'd off primary points and saddles or anyplace holding fish. They catch everything from lake trout to red horse suckers and everything else with fins in between.I like 1/2 & 3/4 oz. in silver but gold works better at times .Ivan

Billy Westmoreland helped the silver buddy lure's popularity explode to what it used to be. The old silver buddy packages used to have his picture and signature on them.He passed away in 2002. He was extremely well known for catching smallmouth bass.He had a couple of books written on smallmouth and he used to have a fishing show "Billy Westmorelands fishing diary"Ivan

Met the owner, nice guy, a couple years ago at the Timonium, MD show. I was surprised that they stopped making them since they are very popular winter baits. I'm glad to hear that they're being made again. Friend of mine won a winter tournament two years ago on one. His big fish was 7.5lbs and he caught it in a channel in 20' of water.
They are commonly used in the winter but catch fish all year long.

I agree and would consider them the very best "search" bait made...

Got a picture if anyone wants to see what it is, just a common blade bait.

True, but It's marketing that would be tough to match.

I play golf with a guy here in the little town I live, that has a patient on a bait that looks really close to this. He has been on some fishing shows and said a lot of people in tournys are using them. I got four of them a couple years ago in different colors but it don't seem to be a magic bait, but usually a bait is as good as the person using it. It has great action, but around structure beaware. With the great action/vibe,

I feel if you use it at the right times, place and action it should work. I have a bad habbit of just throwing and reeling in. I have watched many fishing shows this past esp. KVD he does everything but reel a spinner or crank straight back, so this year will be a total different style of fishihng technique.

I go to the DOC Tuesday and hopefully I will get released to go back to work and I can get after it. That 77 record high day yesterday was tough not to hitch up and go, but I will waite till I get released. I did chunck a couple of times in my pond and got a nice LM on a spinner bait slow rolled. Several hard hits c-rig but I never could figure out when to set the hook.

I hear set it on the first bump, waite till your line moves, or to the second bump is when the fish is droppoing the worm which seemed to be the case yesterday.

O well maybe time on the water this year and I will get a better feel. I will haft to leave that golf club along and go. That is about all I have done the last 7/8 years but these three surgeries last year has me getting the fishing bug. I am thinking of joining the local bass club, but I want to put a little more time on the water to get better prepared instead of just donating to the guys don't you know. I am afraid if I join it will be just like golf when you put a quarter or so on a hole, it then becomes work and a mission and it takes the fun out unless you win and you go all out.
