Carolina Rig
i was wonderin if i could throw a c-rig with no weight.... this might sound really stupid, but the pond is shallow and i was wondering if the bead, swivel, and hook were enough weight.... also would it change the action other than the bead hitting the weight

just use a split shot rig. They work really good in shallow water...

It will change the action because there will be no weight in front of the bait. and the bead won't make any sound by itself. I fish the C-rig in shallow water, but I go with a 1/4 oz weight instead of 1/2+ Also, I use Tungsten weights and Tru Tungsten force beads instead of brass and glass. You can also use two smaller tungsten weights instead of one and a bead.

You could go with a heavy bead. Check out a craft store and you will see some that are 1/8 oz and glass. Still makes a sound against the swivel.

cass, i have used the 2 bead rigging once before JUST for real shallow water. it does work prety good. especially in cloudy, stained water. like right after a monsoon rain and the water is muddy. it does work.

BB, i really like the Tru-Tungsten Force beads. They are magnetized and in shallow water I just use the bead without a weight when I'm carolina rigging. When they bounce off something hard {rock, metal dock post} they produce a unigue sound unlike glass or brass.

Try a 1/16 or 1/8 weight on your shallow water c-rig with a leader of 1' to 2' long.

If you're worried about sound, than they make rattle swivels, I almost always use them when fishing a c-rig! I also use a bullet weight rather than a egg sinker!
Hope this helps ya out!

I'm with CMorg-I'd go with a split shot rig.

I think in the south, there are so many people throwing a C-rig with a weight and bead, they get used to it(the sound), I dont throw it much but I have caught more fish without the bead except for ponds, You have to do something that nobody else is doing sometimes to get bit

here is something i used to do and may go back to soon. take a texas rig worm or lizard or whatever....in between the weight and head of the bait, put a bead in there. works. makes noise everytime you twitch it. whatcha think?used to work for me years ago, and i remembered it today, lol.

Spit shot rig. Try using the smallest split shots you have like 1/16 oz. If you want to add a bead for noise, mount a small split shot then a bead then another small split shot. These work well for shallow water.
