Mono depth finder comparison
I was looking at the mono, "black and white" screen depth finders at BPS the other day. Specifically the models from Lawrance and Hummingbird with down imaging. But I looked at some of the other mono units without DI too. I messed around with the settings on the units. Is it just me, or does the Lawrance units have a brighter and clearer viewing screen than Hummingbird? That was the impression I got inside the store. Not sure how they would compare outdoors.

Keith I've got a Mark5x on my pond boat and it's a disaster. The only time it's readable is in direct sunlight. I returned it after 1 trip thinking it was defective but the 2nd one was the same. Lowrance customer service is awful, tech told me ther was no "fix" other than adjust contrast. Online boards confirm that everybody has this problem. I failed to exercise due dilligence. Not to mention this unit refuses to show a thermocline....if you turn the sensitivity up past default it looks like your over a kajillion shad..but still no cline. I'm getting a bird this spring.
