Default Swine Flu ?

Great. I wasnt that worried about SARS in china , or where ever it was. But this is in Mexico , alot closer to the USA , and in my small town alone we got our fair share of international traveling mexicans , due to a poor paying turkey plant. I dont know what to do , I got my wife and two kids here , I dont need anyone going down ( for good ) with this crap.

I wouldn't worry too much yet, nothing you can do about it. I was in the Chinese area of Toronto during SARS and in Thailand when they had the bird flu outbreak and it wasn't really that bad. Some people wore those surgical masks, but that was about it.
I never heard in the news if those two were just over-hyped or if the preventative measures actually worked.

Kinda weird its back in the media again, last week at the lake someone was telling me their brother died of Sars many years ago when they had no idea how to diagnose it, he had flu like symptoms and within a few days at a hospital passed away.

Yes and it ended up killing more people than the actual flu.

People need to stop panicking about everything. Its a panic pandemic.

yeah, isnt it stage 5 pandemic?

theres already like 50 cases in the US, one only an hour or so away from me. They say its just normal flu symptoms. but i believe that the mexicans dont have the medical technology we have to treat it, thus the reason its deadly

Ya, it's not getting good! It's in Florida yet, but that's just a matter of time! we've got a munch of Mexicans here in my area! We got a call from the school board yesterday saying that if it invades the county that school will probably shut down! So from now until it's gone, I've got a thing of Germ-x handy with me!

Hopefully it wont get here anytime soon!

Prayers sent to every one in an effected state!

The germ-x might not be a great thing.

There is such a thing as beneficial bacteria.

It left like 500 paralyzed too. If it's your time, it's your time and nothing is gonna change it. Wash your hands, don't be nasty, and be careful who kiss is about all you can do. Go to the doc if you feel the syptoms and don't try to be tough.

I wonder if its possibly their genetics that are making it worse in spanish peoples ? Or its the lack of good drugs , but I am not so sure the US cases have all had special meds...

I read older people could have immunity to this flu , due to the outbrake years ago. However most people have no immunity to this. And the old flu did not spread from human to human , making this one worse. Thats what I read or hear anyway. They are also a 1/3 of the way to having a vaccine ready according to the CDC.

It is a little scary here. Being around 20 miles from the border. I do not believe it is genetic. I think that the issue is a lack of sanitation and quality medical care in Mexico.
A child in my daughter's school district (not her school) tested positive. 9 cases out of several million is not that bad when you do the math.

True , but the rate at which it is spreading is bad. And I think it will spread alot faster if people dont use common sense about this stuff , if sick stay home. I work with 4 people in my building , and if one of them gets sick , they come to work ?? We get plenty of paid days off , use em !!

I did find one good thing about it today though. I was in line at starbucks and sneezed once. Half of the people in line were so horrifed at the threat of the flu that they simply left. Faster coffee for me.

The rate that it is spreading is up for debate. I think that we see it more because we are actively looking more. I am willing to bet that just about every area has more HIV positive people than swine flu positive folks.

Yes the flu swine has killed several people, but the normal flu has killed several hundred of thousands. I may be wrong on this, but I believe that our country gets way too apocalyptic when it comes to these types of events. It does not help that our media knows that bad news sells better than good news.

It's just a flue. People are going way over the top about this matter. Take an Asprin, go puke & climb in bed. That's all there is to it. Blame it on the Democrats they take everything wasy to far. I'm sure there the ones pushing all this fear in washington.

People need to relax, it's only the flu, a new strain, but it's just the flu. I work with direct involvement with major hospitals and my fiancee is a chemo nurse so I hear all the news. Swine flu has NOTHING to do with food, even though egypt thinks it's necessary to kill like 3 million pigs...Morons! It has been around since the 70's and originally got it's name because a pig farmer was the first diagnosed with the strain. This new flu is a new Swine flu type strain. Every year thousands of elderly and young children die from the flu, and every year a new strain comes out that's why when you need a new flu shot every year. The flu shot is also not fool proof, they take an educated guess on the strain and then prepare accordingly. This is why you can't get a measles type vaccine shot for the flu, it is always mutating and changing.

The media is having a field day with this (I believe to avoid all the negative economic conditions) and ask any doctor what they think. They all think it's crazy, the Surgeon General needs to make a public announcement to calm the populus because hospitals are getting slammed with patients and phone calls 24/7 all because of "hype"!

2 weeks is along time to have the flu. I usually get over it in about 24 hours. Ive only had what I think was the flu 2 times in my 34 years.
