Big Swimbaits in NW Arkansas
I've been pondering on throwing 6'' hudds and maybe even 8" hudds here on Bull Shoals Reservoir for a while now. Both of Arkansas's spotted bass and smallmouth bass state records come from this lake along with Missouri's Largemouth Bass state record of over 13 pounds. Does anybody have any tips on throwing big baits on this highland reservoir? It's clear ( 10' visibility during summer and fall) and deep (75' average depth). Some larger forage for big bass in this lake are Gizzard Shad, smaller bass, baby carp, bullhead catfish, along with baby flathead and channel catfish.

Check out SouthernTroutEaters website. Another couple suggestions for "big" baits, Mattlures Tournament series, Bull shads, HighPower, 3:16, TT, Real prey, and Hudd shads, some of these baits are hard(and expensive) to get. When it comes to big swimbaits, it's all about commitment.

If you've read through the website then you have a good idea what you need to do...I heard the DVD is good, but just a lot of show, if you get my drift, not very informative. I might check out a couple other forums too...SBN, or SU. Might get some better answers for your specific water, and questions(not many big swimbaiters on this site). Throw with confidence, and Good Luck.

If Rainbow Trout fishing is your sport, early spring, when there is a release of trout, is the best time to come. However, during the summer months, trout go to the deep, cool water along the the high bluffs and near the dam and can be caught at night using floating lights. Straight off a resort website.
Bass eat small blunt nose raceway rainbow trout the same in arikislaw and Tn as they do in Cali.I stop myself at 6 in these were cheap off ebay. Have 2 floaters and 1 sinker in 6 in and all rainbow trout,1 of each in 4 in,they also stock them in creeks that empty into Ky lake and every now and then one is caught in the lake while fishing for bass. Its a good spring time color anywhere even if no trout local. Its scary waking a big (to me its big) 6 in swimbait.I hear jaws music in the background, huge gar and stripers will also eat them and try to keep them. Im a frog guy mostly but notice the pink. Pink in the pads and around bridges. Last edited by lilmule; 05-20-12 at 12:13 AM. |

I live in Fayetteville and go through Harrison quite a bit, and I have a Sebile Magic Swimmer new in the package. I'd trade you for a couple packs of senkos or something similar. It is 145mm/5 3/4" and 1 1/2 oz. It is fast sinking and rainbow trout colored. I got it off a package deal from Craigslist a while back, and I just don't see ever using it.

If he dont want it ill take it,and pay for the shipping.
Senkos hand poured from virgin rubber or what ever you desire in trade nothing like tossing a bait that looks like you caught something every time you cast Last edited by lilmule; 05-22-12 at 07:31 AM. |
