Turtles
I have noticed there are a TON of turtles at my main fishery. Now going with the theory to always match your lure to the bass natural diet Ive been looking for juvenile turtle lures. So far the only one I can find is Bombshell turtle lure. Does anyone know of others? Has anyone used these or anther turtle lure. I'm going to get a pack and see. They seem to make sense where I fish.

Turtles are one of those things that have never really made it to lures in a big way. I have seen the random specialty lure, but not anything I can remember well. I have caught bass with small turtles in their gut, but it is not a common occurance IMO. Not the easiest thing to digest.
I wouldn't try to match the hatch quite so literally, the bass cant be subsisting on turtles.

Exactly. I mean, have u seen any waterdogs in the lake?? If not, it must mean the bass are eating them all, so if u want to match the hatch, get some waterdogs.

Most fish let alone bass are opportunistic feeders, may or may not repeat, anything small enough they can swallow and some time eyes are bigger than stomach or mouth.
Dead bass floating sometimes have the reason in their mouth like a 1 lb catfish. The water dog theory isnt as viable as one thinks, small ones yes they grow to 16 in and not much eats them after 6 to 8 as stubby as well. And the ohio river is chock full of them go to any creek mouth in late feb be about all you catch all day long,12-16 in. A spring lizard would be a better choice. |

Saw a vid on the F&S website, reviewing the above mentioned lure, might want to check it out before you go purchasing it.

Fish eat turtles.
While back there was talk here and pictures too. Many have found turtles in thier livewells. I think it may have been the Capt...or someone found one about a snuff can size. I'm sure someone can find the thread, I couldn't (surprise, surprise ) There was a new 'plastic' turtle that may fit your needs nicely. Lot of options on ways to fish most plastics.

To the OP....I don't think you need to take "match the hatch" quite so far. It wouldn't hurt to try a turtle lure, but I wouldn't go to any great lengths to find unusual lures like that.

Kory thanks and sorry.
Kind of a shame when a guy can't locate a thread he started. Thanks again.

HAHA no worries Joe. It's not like having a fish puke up a turtle in your livewell is anything to really brag about anyways LOL.

When you see a turtle surface it's most likely marking a good area to fish....as they quite often are found near weedbeds......

My best advise is get yourself a cast net, get a bunch, and have some stew!!
Best darn stuff you'll ever have.
