Default OKUMA Rods and Reels: Any Comments or Thoughts

Hi Guys and Gals

First I would like to say thanks to all of you folks. I have learned a lot from the posts on this site. You guys and gals are GREAT, the Knowledge you all have is awesome!!!!

I would like your opinions on Okuma rods and reels. I have two small reels that I like, but want to move up to a bass size rig and not sure of the quality. How long they last, etc.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

the rods are ok not great but will work the reels seem to be fairly decent. they last quite a while. but personlty i am not a fan of round reels.-which they make-

when i first started bass fishing i went with a brand i have used many years in yankee land to fish for trout with. quatum and fenwick..

Got the Fenwick part, used it for years. I know the Quatums are good, ( I sell a lot of them at the store, even have a sale this weekend ) but I like the looks of the Okuma. I think I want to buy them because of the looks. Not the right reason, I know.

So you're telling me that 95% of all the stuuf I bought because I thought it looked good is a waste of my money

Well if you like the looks and like the price buy it. Okuma is a decent brand from what I've heard, I don't and haven't owned any. But persoanl preference should play more of a role in your equipment. If YOU like it then you will use it. Can't think of anything more important than that.

Didn't mean to offend, just ment that if the object is to catch bass, the tool that will do that job the best is the one to buy, even if it is not the one you want to buy. That being said I buy what looks good to me. I might not catch fish but dam I look good lol
Sorry if I offended anyone, not my intention
I'll shut up now

well dang ...and to think i spend 10's of thousands of dallors a year on things that "look good". geee i never made the connection..just cause it is pretty don't mean it will work. there is a saying in the biker world "chrome wont get you home" i find this to be VERY fittin. the question YOU need to be asking YOUR self is will this reel do the job well??

My bike racing days ended years ago when I went through some hay bales and ended up breaking everything from my waist down. Any reel that holds together will catch fish, however some do so better than others. You sound up set, once again for the last time I mean no offense. Just wanted information on certain reels. People come into my store and buy fishing items that will catch fish but is not the right item for what they are going to use it for. They buy it because they like it. I have more than 35 rod and reels and fish 250 days a year, I don't consider myself an expert. But I do know that using a salt water rod in a small pond fishing for bluegills is not the best way to do things. When I spoke to the fellow doing this, he was very proud of his new fishing outfit. He bought it caused he liked it, not because it was the right tool for the job at hand. nuff said.
Sorry if you were offended, that was not my intention. perhaps you need to get off the computer and go fishing.
Thanks for your comments, you have been a big help with my questions, and your understanding of someone with less expertise than you is outstanding.
Looking forward to reading you posts, I learn a lot

If you like the reel and rod buy it then if it dont work like you wanted it to for bass then you can sell it or pass it on to someone else and start looking for another rod and reel that you think will work.

In my opinion, Okuma is very good, I have not had any complaints at all. I am thinking about buying a few more Okuma reels. P N J

Never use it, however, my friend told me they are good! I'm a Daiwa guy.

Any way, What's the price?

I have 2 Okuma spinning reels. I quit using my President and Ondine and newer Mitchell. They look good and they work good. Been using them all summer and havent had any problems. I am looking for a Metaloid. To me, unlike other reels I've owned, they cast well even with a half spool of line. I lost a lot of line due to hangups and didn't have spare line or my other spool and they still cast very good. I do not have anything against any other reel made by any other company. They work for me and for now I'll stick with them.
