How to fish a Fluke
Ok... how do i fish these things? Do you jerk-jerk-jerk all the way to the boat walkthedog style or do you jerk-pause? Weighted or unweighted? I have been using em a little weightless T-Rig like i used to do but have had zero luck with em... when is the best time to fish em?

I like 'em around weeds, they're real good because they slide through stuff well, I use a jerk, jerk, jerk, pause, Jerk jerk... JERK, pause, jerk... jerk, jerk. etc.
Make it kinda random, have almost no method to it, just make sure you pause it every so often.. Weightless btw.

Sometimes I fish them fast, sometimes slow, but always weightless. I twitch them along like I would a hard jerkbait with pauses in between. They also work well fished like a Senko on the bottom.

If the fish are aggressive, I've fished them fast enough that they are popping and jumping out of the water like a fleeing/injured fish, and they were getting crushed at the surface. This method seemed to only catch 8"-12" bass but it was a lot of fun.
I also don't like zoom flukes very much, alot of them had bent tails and spun, and also broke after 1 fish almost every time. I use the Gander Mtn brand. |

There is no wrong way to fish a fluke. I have had my best luck carolina rigging them. I have fished them weightless and weighted for suspended bass.

I've used soft jerkbaits, slow too. Just not flukes. I use the caffeine shad for that! I'll use a very, very light keel weighted hook. The tail quivers nice and slow, great for closer to the bottom.
And like Kritiso said, on the top they work like that too, I use it on over cast days when they don't seem to want a frog or buzzbait. I like a slugo for this better though, heck, I like the slugo better then the fluke flat out! And I've never used them like that walker, seems like it would work well.

Applications have pretty much been covered. The only thing I do differently is that I use a Slug-Go and typically nail weight it.

Best time to fish them
IMO, time of day dictates more HOW you fish them than anything else. I will throw one any time of the day, however I will tend to fish low and slow during the day, higher and faster in both morning and evening.
Another way to rig them: put an Octopus hook through the nose, so the bait swivels back and forth on the hook. Seems to make it dart sideways more than it does when T-rigged. |

I like to use a swivel, vary on the weight, but sometime use a weighted hook. There alot of different options that make it such a versatile bait. Best results for me have been fishing them in the grass and letting in drop and fall in the open areas
