Default No key for hitch lock

I just purchased a used '05 GMC pickup. There is a chrome bar hitch lock on it. Problem is no key. The dealer contacted the previous owner and he doesn't have any keys for it. The dealer said he would have it cut off but can there be any other solutions? Thanks.

Bob

Bob, other than calling a locksmith I think cutting it off is your only option. Probably be cheaper just to cut it off-I'm guessing you want to put your own lock on it.

Only solution is locksmith or cut it off.

I had the same problem, and went to a locksmith. He took it off for me, but it's kinda useless without a key. They can also form a key for it, but I'm not sure how much that is.

I wouldn't want to use it after someone else has had it. how do you know that the previous owner doesn't have the key but is lying about it just so he can steal whatever is hooked up to it? i would cut it and buy a new one.

I stopped by the dealer today. I set up an appointment to have it cut off. Thanks for the input.

i had too cut my rusted lock off this year.i used a electric 4 inch hand grinder too cut it off.it took about one minute.last year i tried using a cutting torch and almost melted my bumper on my 2003 dodge durango.i even used a piece of metal to protect the bumper.

UH dont think a terch will do the job. Most of them are made from 309 stainless.......or shiny carbon as we call it. Cutting wheel on a grinder as mentioned will do the job. WEAR gloves and saftey glasses.
