Question Lipless Cranks

Hello everyone. Just had a quick question and hope someone has an answer. Was fishin the other day with a lipless crank bait, got a good hit from a nice size bass. After he took the bait he wraped around a tree limb and the line broke as I was trying to pull him in. I could here the rattles in the bait as he swam off. I know if you leave a hook in a bass it's likley to come out, but how about a few trebles that may be stuck in the fishes side and mouth? Just curious, any info would be appreciated. THX.

they will eventually come out or rust until they fall out. the fish should be no worse for wear.

He'll be able to throw them eventually, or they'll rust out.

The fate of that rascal probably depends on just where he got hooked. If it's mouth hooked only but the bait is dragging, trebles can snag on anything. If it's mouth and side hooked, that opens him up to infection. Also, the rattles are going to alert baitfish that he's lurking around. The cool thing is that he'll probably shake himself, splash around, bump into stuff, etc. and dislodge that bait. Did you happen to notice a nice fish busting water right after he swam away?

also, lipless crankbaits are usually bad about fish coming unhooked so i would think that this might help his chances of throwing the bait.

Very true...Most fish I catch on a lipless are in no danger of having the hooks in too long

I lose a lot of fish on lipless baits anywyas, I'm sure he'll have to trouble relieving himself of the bait.

by the way pig, I like your signature? is it new or have I just not noticed it?

Pignjig, I had a fish bite me off last year, found out it was a pike... he jumped out of the water and I could hear the rattles and see the fish.... then a few minutes later he did the same thing a little further away..

BigB- The sig's new. I can't really claim it. It's the first joke I remember my Dad telling when I was a litle kid. I still get a chuckle at it out of nowhere.

MI- I had the same experience with a bass- bad knot tying skills- and it looked like someone had skipped a huge stone across the water the way he kept jumping.

The sad fact is you probably just ruined this basses sex life. Imagine if you walked into a singles bar with a gang of trebles hanging out of your mouth. You would'nt stand a chance. There is no way this poor bass is gonna attract a lady bass. No doubt, she would give him one look and label this poor fella a looser. What a shame. And spawning season is right around the corner too. So sad.

That was kinda my thought too, carolina. Or it might be like somebody showing off a scar from a bullet or knife slash. Manly man, you know...
