Default Crankbait hooks

For those of you who change out hooks on crankbaits, what brand/style do you use? I'm not so much interested in specific sizes of hooks as different sizes fit different baits.

I don't change out hooks on all my cranks, some come with pretty good hooks these days. I normally use Mustad Triple Grips or Gamakatsu EWG Trebles. I normally prefer the Gammys because they have a shorter shank. What do you guys use?

VMC. If they're good enough for Rapala and Lucky Craft, they're good enough for me. They are also less expensive than Owner or Gamakatsu, and available in a short shank.

I'm with BB144-VMC. I use the needle cone trebles. Talk about sharp! Unless the bait comes with a quality hook they get changed.

another vote for VMCs for the exact same reasons. In addition, they are tough to beat economically too. You can get 25 trebles for around $5. That CAN'T be beat pricewise.

Mustad Triple Grips if I make a switch. Been thinking about picking up some KVD Elite Triple Grips before the next changeover.

Like some of the others I use VMC trebles. Pyramid Point to be exact... most of my crankbaits have these hooks. You can get a standard shank or a short shank... i like the short shank myself. Like IB said, they are a darn good price for 25 hooks.

I also like VMC hooks...hard to beat the price. However, I don't switch out a ton of hooks, unless I notice a particular problem with missed fish. In that case, I might be tempted to try a different geometry more so than a different brand. Something like a VMC Sure Set hook?

I change the hooks on any bait that has treble hooks. Spooks, Sammys, jerkbaits, crankbaits, lipless crankbaits and ect. All of them get Mustad Triple Grips. Triple Grips are crazy sticky and keep fish buttoned up really well. You can get them in long shank or short shank, I am gonna check out the KVD Triple Grips first chance I get.

When I have them around I use XCaliber TX3 hooks. They used to be available in black nickle finish but not anymore. They are extremely sharp, and I don't know if it really helps or not but the twist makes me feel better about them.

Otherwise I use Triple Grips, Gammy Round Bends, EWGs, Owners, etc. pretty much in that order or if the right size is on top of my hook bag. It does depend a little on the bait though since you can use hooks made with different wire sizes to alter suspending baits like Pointers.

bender i agree lucky craft are one of the very few i don't mess with the hooks with out of box...they are a top of the line hook and are insanly sharp..how ever they are brittle. i have broke a point or two off afore..i do replace with lucky craft hooks...
