Weekly Lake Fork Fishing Report
Well, the weather is still a major factor. We have had more storms this week with rain. Luckily we need the rain and it was not a FROG strangler. The gates are still closed. The water temp is still in the mid 80’s. The fishing has been good with the mornings started with top water, wacky worms, spinner baits, Wave Tiki Sticks, small crank baits, and Lake Fork Tackle ZigZag’s. Work these baits early and when the sun gets up change to the Texas and Carolina rigs. Work around grass points and creek channels in 6 to 12 foot of water. After lunch start your search on main lake points and humps. Deep diving crank baits, swimming lipless crank baits, and Storm Wild eyes fished either on the bottom or where the fish or suspended. Just count the bait down to the depth you think the fish are holding. This almost a time of year you can fish your favorite bait and catch fish. Some folks like the Texas Rig while others like the Carolina rig. Remember there are days that the fish wont hit a Texas rig but will hit a Carolina rig. So when you have fished your favorite spot with no bite put a lite weight Carolina rig thru the area. Try a smaller bait such as a French fry, baby ring fry, or 4 inch Tiki stick.
The crappie are still plentiful around the bridges but are still running small. The Sketter tournament is not far off and this would be a good time to be out scouting. If you need a guide give me a call to take you out . I still have dates open in July. Jim Reaneau 1-888-918-5088 |
