Kermit the frog
Me and ol' Kermit had a date on the Potomac River tourney this weekend. Man I love that frog.

Hef,
Do you hook up more than not with that frog? I was looking at them the other day but got my usual Horney Toads. I had a friend of mine that has a tournemant on the Potomac on the 14th. He leads the FOM VA-East division points right now. Hopefully he'll do well. BTW... very nice fish!! Eric |

Thanks Bassaddict, fishing frogs is a completely different mindset. The biggest thing people fail to do is feel the weight of the bass before they cross his eyes. He might blowup on it or suck it under, but he may not totally have it. Let him run and when you feel him, stick him. I would say I would have more hookups if I used the Bronze eye Jr, vice the full size version on the Potomac. I was about a 70% hookup (which is good considering frogs), but I think I could've muster a better hookup with the smaller version. Let your friend know to hit the grass up in Piscataway (If he can find a spot that isn't already occupied). The topwater bite was going all day and between me and my boater, we probably landed close to 50 bass, all on topwater. They didn't want any fast moving baits (buzzbaits, buzzfrogs, etc..) they wanted lures that would have a stop and go (frog, popper, floating worm). It was probably the best day I've had on the mighty Potomac. Tight lines.

Hope he doesn't get the wind we've had the last two trips out on the river. Topwater has been sporadic depending on your location. The NE or NW 10-20 MPH winds we've been having can really make your day tough.
Only weighed 15.70 today but placed 7th. One fish was caught on topwater out of the 10 keepers and 25 fish. Did catch a couple on floating worms and speed worms just under the surface. If topwater gets tough go to plastics!!!! The fish are there. |

I bought the Jr. model the day after your post Hef and tried it at my dad's pond. He has a lot of floating grass in the pond and the bass KILLED that frog! I caught one that went around 6 lbs and another that went about 4 lbs. Both fish were skinny from spawning but were big. I made the mistake of setting the hook too quick on the first fish but from then on I would give it a 2-3 count then hit them (or wait to feel them). I like this frog and I'm going to try it on the Chic River soon. Thanks for the idea!

No problem. Here's a hint. When your working the frog, look away at something else. It forces you to not get that startled hookset that topwater baits are known for.

It was a local tourney. The ABA was on the 10th and I had to miss it because of work.
