I won't call it a boat
But, it fits into the budget, and most of my lakes are small and have a lot of debris. Not to mention it will fit in the back of the truck. The guy bought it in April and I picked it up for 1K. The over under before my fat @$$ flips it is 21 days.

Maybe for my gear, but I guarantee, I won't get in it without a PFD.

My ex step dad carries a contraption consisting of: an empty film canister, small cork, 25ft of trotline string, and alka seltzer.
He has one attached to his poles and tackle boxes. Wether or not it actually works? but he swears by it. attach one end of the trot line string to the small cork, anchor the other end to the bottom of the film canister, break apart the alka seltzer and put it in the film canister, then all of the string and cork, then put the lid on the canister. put some small holes in the bottom of the film canister, and attach the setup to whatever you dont want to loose in the lake. The theory is you drop your tackle/pole overboard the water seeps in the small holes, hits the alka seltzer, pressure pushes off the lid, and the cork floats up to the surface. Allowing you to retrieve your belongings (as long as you securely tied it to your tackle/ pole and the water isn't too deep.) Now, if it works or not I dont know but he swears by it. |

Doc,
It sounds like a decent Theory. I do a lot of canoe fishing, so I have always used a simlar system, but I attach a large bobber to the line. I coil the line and hold it together with a water soluable glue. On my rods I bought some rubber stoppers, the type you would put on the bottom of a cane. I drill a small hole into the center of it and thread the line through. I attach a washer slightly bigger than the hole and then coil the line inside of it. I use a similar large bobber on the other end. Obviously, I don't use this on all my rods all of the time. In a canoe I have learned (the hard way) if it is not in use, tie it down.

Cassidyta,
My first "boat" was a very similar set-up. The only difference is that it did not have that new-fangled electric in the floor. Instead, I just had a basic trolling motor on the back. You shouldn't be disappointed with your purchase. Back when I had the similar set-up, I got into some serious fish. I took the thing everywhere, including places that I probably had no business being (like big lakes and the Delaware River). The good thing about your boat is that you will be able to take it places that others can't go. I discovered a marshy area near my home, carried it into the water, and caught tons of fish that were likely undisturbed for years. Good luck. NOTE: I am looking forward to seeing pictures of you in some super shallow weedy waters catching fish that others can't. |
