Default Belly boating

How many have got down with the fish and fished a belly boat??

How about a pontoon?

For the last couple years I have donated a pontoon boat to my local CCA auction. I think this year I will buy one for myself..

Creek has a sweet boat on sale..

only 199.00

I was trying to find some tricked out pontoons to post pics of. But they are all copy writed.. Six rod holders and a huge tackle bag. I even saw one with a livewell made out of a storage bin and a working pump to recirculate the water..

Depth finders too.

I saw one with a trolling motor mounted on it..

Man this would be a great late evening boat.. Could squeeze in two or three hours of fishing after work.. and just toss in back of truck..

I was looking for something like this, there is a lot of modifying you can do to them, it would be a pretty sweet project to keep me busy. But if i was going to make a project outta it, i would buy a regular kayak for way cheaper then just add on.

I love 'yaks. They are pricey though. Check this place out BF02 if you don't already know about it:

Hey, how big is that thing? I live near so many ponds that don't have a way to get boats into them. I need something that would fit in the back of the truck but light enough that I could carry a few hundred yards. Only 199...I've seen baits that cost almost that much. Could you give me a link to the site that you found it?

Thanks.

One of the best buys I have ever made for fishing small water. Pontoons are easily modified for a lot of conditions, easy to transport and very comfortable to fish from. For me sitting flat on your butt with your legs straight out wears a little thin after a couple hours.

I rigged my pontoon with a front trolling motor, never liked reaching behind you to handle the motor and also have a mount for my depthfinder up front. These things are easy to modify for what ever you like.

Gators dont mess with you, during hunting season we'll wade out into shallow lakes for duck hunting, and we'll have gators swim through our decoy spread, had a 4-5 footer come within 4 feet of me once, they just pass along minding their own business.

Gators don'd mess with you until your business becomes theirs and then the following happens

"APOPKA, Fla. -- The swimming area at an Orange County park remains closed after a gator bit a man on the head."

Apopka is just outside of orlando and very populated. gators in populated areas tend to be fed by humans more often. after being fed a few times they associate humans with getting fed. once they do that they tend to lose fear of man. THIS IS WHY IT IS ILLEGAL TO FEED GATORS!

I've come close to quite a few gators and they've all shown fear in one way or another, either swimming away quickly, backing away slowly and maintaining its distance or going underwater and swimming away.

Rodman Reservoir is home to all the nuicsance gators in north central florida. when gators get a little too friendly in nieghborhood ponds they trap and dump them in rodman back into a remote setting. I've come face to face with MONSTERS while paddling orange springs, deep creek, and sweetwater creek (all narrow shallow creeks at rodman). Some of these monsters were bigger than the boat buy they've all swam in the other direction.

Now that guy smoking crack swimming in the lake at 4am naked, yeah, I'd say he deserved to get attacked. If anything its going to be a lot harder to hit that crack pipe with only one arm.....the gator did him a favor if ya ask me, lol.

Check out Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club at www.scbbbc.com

(That's me on the front page winning last months tournament)

You can get all kinds of Ideas for modifying float tubes and pontoon rigs on the user forum there. I've been fishing with them for 7 years now, even after buying a bass boat. Tubes and pontoons are great tools for getting into water not accessible to boats, and also they are great for learning to really fish since you don't have the option of covering tons of water. You are kind of forced to fish thouroughly from one, and that will pay huge dividends down the road in your fishing. Most of us have sonar, multiple rod holders, livewells and all kinds of unique mods. Stop on in and say hello.

I just wanted to add that I got my ODC Classic yesterday and put it together last night. About an hour later it looks great in my living room. I hear a knock at the door and my soon to be ex neighbor gives me a kayak that is so new looking I might just give that to CCA and keep the pontoon boat.. Oh and I found 50 bucks in the street yesterday too.

If only I could remove that horseshoe I fell on Monday...it hurts to sit down..

If you dont mine Capt, send a poor struggling angler a kayak?? I'll pay shipping... although, I dont think you can ship something like that? Well then I will glady make the roadtrip.. Hahaha.

Sounds like you are on a stream of good luck, better hit the water while its still good and see what kinda monster you can have pull around your pontoon.

I use a yak a lot on smaller waters... I know some here don't like that idea... I just bought a depth finder for it and it should be good to go on the Saturday morning trip..

This might be a good alternative for a less stable friend of mine that uses my wifes yak but is still a bit precatious...

Captmike... what are the rough dimensions of that boat if you don't mind me asking.

My pleasure..
  • Frame - Full take-down, no-tools-required, powder coated steel frame with padded fabric rowing seat can adjust on pontoons to balance your cargo.
  • Pontoons - 8 foot long, 16 inch diameter pontoons feature heavy duty 840 denier nylon outer covers and 30 gauge PVC bladders fitted with Boston Valves. Two cam-lock straps secure each pontoon to frame.
  • Oars & Oarlocks - 6 foot take-down oars and heavy-duty steel clamp-on oarlocks mount into nylon inserts in frame for smooth rowing.
  • Cargo Pockets & Stripping Apron - Two large side cargo pockets for tackle storage and large stripping apron with raised edges for fly line control.
  • Cargo Deck - Large cargo deck with D-rings to secure the load.
  • Footbars - Walk-through footbars have six position adjustment to fit most anglers.
  • The ODC Classic DOES NOT COME WITH A PUMP!, so you will need to order #916 ODC Two-Way Pump to inflate your Classic.
  • Weight Capacity: 375 lbs
  • Overall Weight: 50 lb
Hope that helps..

Capt Mike
