Default New in fishing

Hi,

I'm new in this matter of fishing, though I like it very much. I've only gone fising a couple of times at a water reservoir near my home. Although, I enjoy my time in the outdoors, I haven't catch anything. I know there are some bass around becasue I've seen other people catching them.

Could you please advise me and give me some instructions on this? I have a 7 feet spinning rod spooled with 8 pound test fluorocarbon line. I usually use rapala lures 1/16 oz and a 1/8 egg sinker.

I just learned a couple of knots like the palomar and some others, but I don't know much about lures, weights, plastics, spoons and so on. Where should the weight go? At the bottom? What about the lure or hook? How fast should I retrieve the line? What position should I have my pole?

I don't have a boat so I fish on shore. Any piece of advise would really help. In advance, thank you very much for your help.
