Default Cabelas and G.Loomis.

I read a tackle tour article a while back interviewing Gary Loomis, and in it, he mentioned that he made blanks for Cabela's in the 80s, until he sold the company in 1997. Here's the last page of the article where I found it.

Apparently, on the old Loomis rods, they used something called a metal wiebe reel seat, and the old fish eagle Keith gave has that same reel seat (what year fish eagle is it Keith?).

My questions is, is do you think Shimano/Loomis still makes the cabelas blanks? Wouldn't it be cool if all our cabalas rods where renamed G.Loomis rods?

I believe that rod was purchased some time around the mid to late 80's or early 90's. Not sure exactly.

It wouldn't, it's just nice to know who's making your rods. And thanks keith.

There aren't very many blank manufacturers world wide. A lot of the known blank makers also make blanks for other rod companies. I think it is usually per the rod companies specifications so it probably wouldn't correspond with blanks built under the blank makers name. In other words, Shimano/Loomis could very well be making Cabela's blanks but they wouldn't necessarily have the same action, power or even composition as Shimano/Loomis branded blanks. It would be very interesting to know who is making what for whom.
