Creature Bait Box
Hey, I was wanting to put together a “Creature” Bait box and wanted to ask some of you more experienced Bass Fishermen that use these a couple of questions.
If you were to create a Creature Bait Box, which baits would you select, sizes and colors Also, which hooks do you use? Thank ya much

It's funny, I came back over here to post that I've decided to make a box of nothing but Beavers.
With that said, what would be some Colors I want to get? Can you name 10 Colors? Also, what size Hook do I use on these things?

Mumpy, you can buy 10 different colors but most of the time it is going to be waste. I stick to 3 colors for beavers. The only reason I stick to 3 is 2 by one mfg and the 3rd is by a different mfg. Shakey Head worms are 1 color, brush hogs are 2 colors. I have a lot of baits that I don't use because I thought I needed every color in the rainbow.

A few that I use and like are the Berkley Pit Boss, Gene Larew Hoo Daddy and Biffle Bug, Lake Fork Tackle Tube Craw, Hag's Undertaker and Undertaker Jr., Strike King Rodent, Roboworm Pitchin Craw, and Power Team Conviction Craw.
I usually choose colors in the watermelon, green pumpkin, pumpkin, and magic craw flavors, blue and black combo has also worked well for me.

You will like the Sweet Beavers, they are one of my favorite creature baits. I also like the Pitt Boss, Brush hog, Baby Brush Hog, and the Biffle Bug. As far as colors go, you can't go wrong with green pumpkin, watermelon candy, watermelon red, black/blue, and I really like Zooms bull frog color for the Brush Hogs and Baby Brush Hogs.

I like the skip gap hooks as well, not only do they do a good job of holding plastic baits in place, but their design moves the pull line down into the bend of the hook.

Baby brush hogs, Yum wooly bugs, beavers, and any kind of strange craw imitations are good! Things like rage tail space monkeys are good as well.
I'll also eco John on the one box per creature style. One more beavers, one for hogs, and one for craw lookin things. Helps keep things organized, and excisable. I like a 3/0 - 4/0 EWG hook for casting creatures, and a straight shank hook for flipping them. Colors? Natural shades (greens, browns, & grays) and dark shades (black n blue, black n red, just black... anything with black). Natural for you clear - lightly stained water, darker for when the water is stained - murky. Also baits with brightly colored tips are good for darker water. I've experimented with keeping the baits in the bag, or taking them out and putting in the boxes. I really like the in-the-box method when I take my tackle bag with me to the lakes. But I rarely find my self doing that now. I'll usually take a couple of bags of plastics, and few frogs and crankbaits, or whatever I think I'll be needing on that trip. I fish from shore, so lugging around a big ol tackle bag can get old fast. I like having a smaller bag that I transfer stuff to and from on any given fishing trip. Experiment with what works for you, but KEEP THE BAGS if you feel like changing or experimenting. That way you don't have to wait until you run out, or put them in zip lock bags (which are not nearly as tough). Hope this helps!

The reason I went with a Creature Bait box in the first place was the fact I had made some Jika Rigs and wanted to use them for flipping Sweet Beavers.
This is what I made, how I rigged them and yesterday I caught a bass on the very first cast with this set up. I didn't catch another one the rest of the day, but, it felt great once again to catch something other than cabin fever. hehe

Didn't know if you wanted craws included but here's my top 4-5 for Creatures and Craws. Colors I use are Green Pumpkin (varied flake colors), Black/Blue, or some swirl combo of green and blues or brown and orange. I'll carry more colors of the 3-4" size but one or two of the 4-5".

For my system, anything with two flappers and a tail resembling a brush hawg, is a creature bait. Beavers get their own box, or would if I could accumulate enough to justify a box.
Green Pumpkin (always, in every possible plastic available that I use) Okochobee Craw Bama bug (purple with green fleck/grn. pumkin laminate) Sprayed grass. Black and blue or black with blue fleck, or some vairance of that. Those are the only ones I use so there is half of your ten. All Rodents actually but have them in RI sweet beavers now cause they were cheaper, and last longer.

And at Lunch time today my Creature Bait Box Grew a little bit bigger. I can tell already this is one of those things I'm going to get Addicted too and the next thing you know I'm going to have about 5 Planar Boxes full of stuff I'll only throw one or two of.
Went to Dicks at Lunch and found the "Kinky Beavers" in the Colors I was unable to purchase the Sweet Beavers in last week. In the Kinky Beaver style I picked up a package of: Junebug Dirty Sanchez Sprayed Grass Okeechobee Craw Magic Craw Swirl Has anyone fished with the Kinky Beaver yet? I like the looks of them, thats for sure.
