Default cranky's crab conquest!!! and a fish too... (pics)

hey guys! well i was going to the navesink river for weakfish and my dad decided we should go crabbing... that was fine. well aparently the weakfish and stripers only bit at night... and the lady said ONLY, no chance of a catch. ok so we had a blast dropping traps all over the place and picking them up every two minutes... i didnt catch any fish so i thought, whatever i'll just crab so after about 20 minutes:

then i caught this... no idea what kind of fish but it was tiny... never theless, fun to prove that lady wrong

got it from under here:

so we had fun, my dad didnt know how to row though, maneuvering took a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time... heres the catch of the day:

up close:

7 inches, BANG!
full bucket:

oh and this is what happens when you bring home a ful bucket without a top:

well it was fun... maybe a bass would feel better but hey.

shoulda used that fish for bait, woulda been a good sized bait for a striped bass. thats the sized shiners they use down here to catch em. think they actually grow bigger up where you're at than down here.

haha nice photoshopping JB... and i must admit, my dad made a scene in public because he wanted to take every damn crab, even if they were under limit... i got rid of 5 under limit ones, 2 while they came up i "accidentaly" shook em out, 2 of them, "bit" me and i chucked them in shock one under limit was taken and my dad started screaming, no dont put it back! lol! i got rid of it at the dock.

kb- great to see you here! yes i still do make cranks. more designing lately, becuase my basement is being finished. havent worked on lures for about 3 weeks.

zooker- damn i couldn't bring myself to put you on my iggy list... when i see that little thing that says this message is ignored, i get curious to see what it said... heck selective ignoring now. yes there was a dot on it. right near the edge of the gll plate. you can see the black spot, not all of it though

IL,no..that is a small bluefish..they have teeth and when they get big they have bigger teeth.no lipping those things.when you find one, there's usually a million more of their brothers and sisters with them.

il rodman is right a blue back herring. looks alot like gizzard shad. but remember this he is caughting blue crabs in brackish water. gizzad shad can not survive in brackish water even small amounts of salt water will kill them.....

Crabbin is good stuff. Went out yesterday with a buddy and castnetted some shrimp. Froze 'em up, next weekend, they're going back in the river....
