As long as you're not going for 15+ lbers it should be fine, if ask me. I do some salt water fishing every now and then, blue fish and snook. It holds up fine, and snook are are fighting fish! a 1lber fights as hard as a 5lb bass! I have 30lb braid, a 7' m/h action rod and a 6.3:1 reel. It works fine, I don't see why it would not hold up for cat fish! However if you have a pricey rod on, like the others said, go to wally world and get a cheep ugly sick!

yeah its cool if you dont plan on turning one bigger than i say about 25lbs..... just taking your biggest 7+ rods out there and have some fun
