I thought I might make a thread for bass terms.
Make a post if you can't find it on HERE I'll start it off. What is a creek channel? I think I kind of understand, but I don't really understand what people mean when they talk about a creek channel swinging into a bluff bank. |

Part of your lack of understanding is your pronunciation. In order to understand you must pronounce it as "crick" not creeeek. Once you've learned that then you may be ready grasshopper .
Creek Channel - Look at any creek or small stream in the woods and you'll notice that the water is a couple feet lower than the immediate surrounding area. Most of the time you'll see undercut banks and trees. This is normally known as a creek bed. Once this area is flooded it is refered to as a creek channel. Rock Bluff - Now follow that creek bed until it hits rock or a rocky area and turns. Remember water flows down hill and will go through the area of least resistance. Dirt is less resistant than rock. Over the years a "bluff" will develop as the stream will erode the dirt around the rock. If you ever get a chance at wading a small stream you'll see this rock area where the stream bends. Hope this helps. |

Thanks 3D. Great explanation. You confused me on the whole "crick" thing. |

He was yanking your chain...
Anyways the only words in the world of bass fishing I need to understand are: "HAWG" "MONSTER" As you Joolz, being from Wisconsin, I would not expect you to understand the terms... Haha well to an extent anyways. All other usless vocabulary is more considered junk to stuff up my mind when it should soley be on fishing. *note: this post was completely pointless and therefore should not be taken seriously, as we all know there is a plethera of bass fishing [and all other fishing] related terms that not only help us to discuss the sport better, but to also help us to catch more of the fish we set off after. I will not go into the whoel dictionary as I am lazy and not to fond of typing vast amounts considering that i'm not good on the keyboard, thus making this post completely pointless, like I have already mentioned. Good day.

Speaking of, where has the guy who made crankbaits run off to/ His company was called Carolina Lures I believe, and if I have my facts straight he moved inward to a state beginning with an 'M.' My guess Missouri. Anyways I was just reminded of him, first by me re-organizing my tackle box and noticing two beautiful crankbaits he made me, that are so pretty and appetizing just makes me wanna fish them [even though everyone knows i'm not big on crankbaits], using the heaviest braid I have ofcourse, as loosing one would be a situation where I would actually think about jumping in... Second with the meantion of the purple headed warrior, and for some reason that reminds me of him.

I had this discussion with a pro last week and wanted to get another opinion. Since this topic is about definitions. What's the difference between a "Good" bass and a "Big" bass? As in "That's a good fish." vs "That's a big fish." I was told a "good" fish is in the 3 to 5lb range and a "big" fish has to be over 6lbs. Any discussion????
And is a pig, a hog, and/or a mule the same size fish? Or is it relative to where you live? (Flyrod - go ahead with the relative jokes!) |

Good fish vs. big fish all depends on where you live. If you are in some yankee state, lets say Michigan and you catch an 8lb'er, thats a big fish! Yes thats a big fish in anyones book yada yada yada, but if you are fishing a southern lake that consistently produces fish in the 5lb-10lb range, than an 8lb'er isnt so much a big fish as a good fish... a 12lb'er would be something to talk about. Now if you catch a 17lb'er well I invite you to come on over and I will personally cook you up whatever feast you have in mind, and cater to all your needs, as long as you take me to fish that lake. Once you hit the 15lb mark, there isnt much to describe the fish, more of just a bunch of half assembled words, and a lot of yelling and screaming.

www.carolinachip.com Makes the best looking cranks I've ever seen. Has a model for a wife, and fishes onl;y when he gets time off from all the work he does. He does pop in every now and then. I wish he lived closer so I could go fishing with him.
