Trilene Fluorocarbon-WOW!
Guys, if you are looking for a fluorocarbon line you need to check out Trilene Fluorocarbon. I bought a spool a couple weeks back and spooled up with it. Today was the first chance I've had to try it. It is a lot more limp than any fluoro I have used, but here is the amazing part: After being on a reel for two weeks it had ABSOLUTELY NO MEMORY. No curly-Q line coming off the reel-it was as straight as braid. I was very impressed-this is some really good line. Pricey, but now I see why.

Reb, you must be talking about Berkleys Vanish. That is a nice line. I've used it myself and loved it. Much better than the other flouros I've used. By the way, how did your outting go yesterday? Were you two ablt to get out or did the weather put another kabash on it?

For my part, considering that reties and breakoffs will soon mandate a ($$$) refill, I'd rather use braid with a purpose-formulated fluoro leader such as P-Line CFX (note exceptions in next paragraph). It's at least as limp and mannerly and there's no need for line invisibility for slow presentations (See: Worms,Jigs, Lizards, Carolina Rigs) IF you use the fluoro leader. Too, there is NOTHING more sensitive than braid and NOTHING assures a more positive hookset and "shock and awe" to the fish. Better yet, $$$-wise, I've had the same braid on some of my reels for three years with no sign of failure. Remember that braid won't kink and EVERYTHING else will. If you're tossing a fast mover, such as a spinnerbait, Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzbait, or toad, a frog in dense mat or pads, or night fishing visibility is, again, not an issue, so I use braid withOUT the leader. For cranks, 'traps, etc, line visibility is a non-issue so mono or my personal (and less expensive by far) favorite, P-Line FloroClear (no "u") is the ticket. Since it's fluoro coated it is less visible than mono and gets down a little quicker. I'm glad my best bassin' buddy has found his dream line, though. What works best for me, or you, or Reb, may not work best for Reb, or them, or ME! (Get the "reversal? ) FR Last edited by FlyRod; 07-29-07 at 11:16 AM. |

Hey FlyRod, Which style knot do you use to tie flouro to braid? Is the blood knot sufficient? I've also seen an albright knot, but I've never used it myself. Also, when using flouro as a leader for your braided lines, how long a leader do you usually use? I was thinking 4-6 foot would be ok, but not really sure.

Thanks FlyRod. I checked it out. Where is this new Trilene flourocarbon line available at? I have both BPS and Cabelas catalogs and it's not in either. Just the Vanish is shown.

Keith, it is real new-not on the BPS site but it is on Cabelas. My only question is why did they make it in both clear and green? Noticed the geen on Cabelas site. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
