Which reel?
Hey guys i need some input on a new baitcaster. I'm looking for a good all around reel that will cover cranking to finesse tactics. If you chose other please explain why. Thanks!

Heres all you need to know, PFLEUGERS KILL THE COMPETITION, except for Daiwa, which runs a close second but always, buy Pfleuger and Daiwa. Well, at least theres my 2 sense.

I've only used Quantum and BPS. I've been satisfied with both.

I'm sure that they're all pretty good reels, even though I've never used any one of them. IMO, the Quantum PT energy is the coolest looking reel on the market...I love that thing.

I think that you were thinking exactly what I was thinking. This topic could once again, deteriorate into a Shimano versus the World debate. |

All of those reels would be fine for all I know. I'm a Shimano user, but that's just personal preference, and I see no need to change. Since it's a multiuse reel, then any will work fine. Name brand is just like autos. All the bigger names make a decent product, when you find one you like, then you continue to buy that brand until something causes you to change. Either driving another Brand, or service/quality issues. Or my favorite, just because it looks KEWL How many people really have any use for a Hummer Maybe 1/2 of 1% of the people that actually own them Buy what you can afford and like. Lizards

Lizards, I said I use baitcasters for saltwater, and I have these things called friends, that use baitcasters, and they have these things called experiences, that lead me to opinions, plus those brands make spinning reels. Sorry for trying to be helpful, and voice my personal opinion. Also didnt I say that this post would end up in an argument????

Quantum
Shimano Pflueger Daiwa Abu Garcia Go to the store, see what they have, find one or two that you can afford, have them spool some line, have your rod with you, attach a jig, test the reels out in the store, make a decision, pay the cashier, and go fishing. I like lizard's analogy with cars. Sometimes you get a lemon even if you purchase an expensive reel. Unlike cars it's a lot easier to send them back and get a replacement when you do get a bad one. |

Dont waste your money on an easy breaking reel. Save up some jack and but a curado or the like. It wont be the last one you buy but you wont replace it. Inshore fished a curado since 98 hasnt broken, only been torn down twice. I wore out drag washers which Im very proud of.
