model magic?
has anyone ever considered using model magic to make soft floating baits? with a few slitshots you could make it sink... but anyways, its a light, claylike material that hardens to a styrofoam stregnth, but youd have to rip it, not crunch it. i think it would be pretty cool. any opinions?

ok guys. in art class, today my teacher told us we'd be model magic pop art!!! how lucky is that? im making a popper. so far, i got the eyes in, the form done, and a trailer or Rafeya (sp?) in red. i painted the gilld and half the body grey too. i have to put in small peices of aluminum foil, maybe. then im going to put specks of red at the bottom. i also dug out the mouth. i dont know much about poppers, so i just made the hole about 1/2 an inch deep into the face, in the shape of a cup. im probably going to take out the hooks and hookeyes of a lure i got that was way too big for my kind of fishing

cranky,
once you have made the basic mold of the popper, take some kinda sandpaper and "cup" the mouth and make sure the edges of the mouth are crisp and sharp, then paint the cupped area red...the sharp edges will result in a nice bubble type popping action from the water...I always take some light wieght sandpaper to the edges of my new popR's. Also if you mom has any pillows with feathers inside, I'd take a few small ones and tie it around your rear treble hooks, about a inch long. |

hmmm, how much does this stuff weigh when completed? How much detail can you make with it and still be strong? Could I make something to resemble a bug the size of a quarter and would it be heavy enough to cast?

cranky ya may have to balance that lure, after the trebles are added, the back end should either be level with the front or better yet, slightly lower in the water ...don't forget the feathers or heckle on the back

rodman- mine is about 4 inches long, and weighs at least 1/4 an ounce. detail you can make tons. if you let it dry, you can carve it just like balsa wood. its just a little squishy and a different kind of soft
JB- guess what? my teacher had some red stuff like feathers called marafou! the stuff is crazy. i just glued a bit onto each hook. already added the trebles. um the back end is exactly level with the front. i painted it with 4 different shades of grey, red gills, googly eyes, and flecks of red underneath the stomach. but now, how would i make sure it stays rightside up? maybe a few sinkers or splitshots in the belley? im going to have to cut it open the though... so far it looks just like a lure. i havea top fin too. maybe two fins on the sides to keep it balanced? i have the top of the lip slightly farther out than the bottom. |

cranky the feathers when wet join together to resemble a small pin minnow. I always used chicken feathers, but have bought maribou hair jigs, its more like a fuzz than a feather
